It was 1985; the world was shocked at the atrocities taking place in South Africa. “Mash Down apartheid!†The call came from a new band out of Bull Bay in east rural Saint Andrew. Led by singer, song writer, guitarist, Billy ‘Mystic’ Wilmot, the band was destined to become one of the most dynamic self contained groups to come out of Jamaica in the last two decades.With eight albums to their credit including “JAH WORKSâ€, the 1994 “Jamaica Music Industry Award†(JAMI) winner for best produced album, and recipient of the “Jamaica Federation of Musicians†Merit award for best album of the year 1994, the “Mystics†have a long and prestigious track record.The group has traveled the world spreading their message of unity and positive action. The list of countries which have received the good vibes includes England, Scotland, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Spain, Columbia, Venezuela, Japan, Canada and the United States. Countries that have not had personal visits from the band, have had access to the groups material via major cable and satellite network stations including VH1 MTV (US&ECU), BBC and BET, where their award winning music videos “Religionâ€, “Romeoâ€, “Righteous†and “Got to be a better wayâ€, received major rotation.The Mystics have worked with most of Jamaica’s premier names in the music fraternity, popular DJ’s including Sizzler, Capleton, Anthony B, DJ Sojah, Kulcha Knox, Angie Angel, Vocalists Judy Mowatt, Pam Hall, Luciano, The Tamlins, Brian & Tony Gold, Mickey General, Instrumentalists Sly & Robbie, Jackie Mittoo, Family Man, Dean Frazer, Robbie Lyn, Tyrone Downie, Sky Juice, Sticky The Bands core members are Billy “Mystic†Wilmot, Nicholas Henry, Leroy “Lion†Edwards and Steveâ€Dad†Davis Paul “Scooby†Smith Winston “Metal†Stewart.The group is currently working on their ninth album with singles to be released beginning mid October 2007 Discography.Young Revolutionaries, ras, 1991.
