Before even going ‘on the road’ as a folk singer, travel was the norm for me. I was born in Africa of Scottish and Yorkshire parents and have lived in Scotland, Australia, England and Ireland.I sing with two duos - Celtic Christian singing duo "Caim" and in a duo with Ciaran Dorris. (See www.cluniemusic.com)I've been a professional folk singer since 1990 but I've also been a freelance writer at various times in my life. I started writing again recently and have had a few articles published in The Scots Magazine and "People's Friend" and one of my poems published in "The Friendship" Book published by D.C. Thomson.Poetry is a new venture for me and I've needed a lot of encouragement from friend and mentor Margaret Gillies Brown to continue. Margaret is a published poet and author and she and I have a duo "Heather and Red Rowan Berries" - so named after her autobiographies "Far from the Rowan Tree" and "Around the Rowan Tree". (well worth a read!) Our performances combine poetry and song and are fun to do.Scots Gaelic is another interest of mine. I'm attempting to learn the language in the hope of making a half decent attempt at singing one or two of the Gaelic songs I love. After all the travelling in my life I've settled down for a while in a wee cottage in the Scottish hills. (I leave the travelling to my gigs on the road.) I moved here from a large farmhouse after my husband died and my menagerie of animals is now reduced to my faithful Donegal Irish cat "Hope" who takes great care of me.
