Cryptus Confession was the youth’s favorite “beat-band†on the island of Aruba in the Dutch Caribbean towards the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The band consisted of 6 musicians that sailed through the disco and the rock-era, but was most well-known for their romantic ballads.
"Cryptus" as they were called by their fans, was founded in early 1977 when another popular band of that time (R.P.M.) split up. Jado Maduro (drummer), Tommy Croes (vocalist), and Ruben Werleman (guitarist), joined forces with Hildward Croes (keyboardist), his brother Maikito Croes (percussionist), and Gos Oduber (bassist) to form Cryptus Confession. In a short time they became one of the favorite bands amongst the youth of Aruba.
With a powerful sound and a choice of songs the youth demanded at the time, the band would play all weekends in local clubs and parties around the island. Cryptus was well-known for covering songs by The Bee Gees, KC & The Sunshine Band, The Eagles, Air Supply, Billy Joel, Elton John, and others.
Maikito left the island to pursue his studies in the U.S. and Rudney Lopez took over his job as percussionist. Eventually, Ruben was replaced by Jonchito Croes on guitars and Jado by Ety Paskel on drums. Cryptus Confession received many recognitions in Aruba including "Band of the Year" award on various occasions.
In July of 1979 the band travelled to the U.S. and recorded an album of original songs at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, Florida. The studio was well-known in those days for the recordings of such artists as The Bee Gees, Elton John, and The Eagles (Hotel California). The first single off this album would later become the song of the year on Aruba in 1980: Love Dream. The success of this single song would take the group to a whole new level.
Suddenly Cryptus was touring and doing international presentations. At a certain point the band would travel each weekend to Venezuela and other South-American and Caribbean nations.
On the 2nd of June 2007, Cryptus Confession got back together after 25 years in a reunion concert, opening up for the legendary Air Supply in the Don Elias Mansur Stadium in Oranjestad. Fans were thrilled to see their favorite band back on stage after 3 decades. Due to the enormous response and on popular demand, Cryptus Confession is working on a "one night only" farewell show to be held in 2008.
