About Me

I am a just an ordinary yet nerdy lefty living and working in Northern California who enjoys hiking, the ocean and the night sky, wine tasting, micro-brews, chai lattes, and softball.I love to dance, sing and play musical instruments, read; I collect comic books and graphic novels, laser-discs, dvd's and LP's.I love going to the opera, theater, symphony, air shows, movies, plays and rock concerts.Walks on the beach and sunsets are on my top ten.
• I enjoy anything that involves southern California, I try to visit my hometown of San Diego at least once a year if time allows. Geological Field Work College trips during the summer, fast pitch softball and baseball, basketball, football, camping, surfing, swimming and diving, snowboarding (well I try to snowboard - falling on my face and butt 99.9% of the time hardly qualifies as snowboarding), scuba diving, white-water rafting, rock climbing, riding dirt bikes and quad 4x4's, brew fests, coffee, traveling (road-trips), oceanography and marine biology, archeology, geology, history (ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, Mesopotamia and the American Civil War), physics, space, NASA, Apple-Macintosh computers and programs, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, the Gas Lamp district and Seaport Village in San Diego, the Santa Monica Pier and the Pier in Oceanside, roller coasters (the bigger and faster the better!), Disneyland, Grand Ole Opry, collecting photographs and movie memorabilia, art, paintings, museums, archeological sites, visiting state and national parks, overlooking the ocean and smelling the salty air, golf (i golf right-handed, i can't hit a golf ball to save my life left-handed), movies, dvd box sets and collector editions, flirting, spending time with friends and family, fast cars, playing video games with my brother on the xbox 360 and the PC. I enjoy hockey, horseback riding, NASCAR (Tony Stewart), my baseball team is the Los Angeles Dodgers, and my football team is the New Orleans Saints, my college sports team favorites are USC Trojans (love the marching band), UCLA Bruins (once upon a time I was set to play softball here), University of Notre Dame, and San Diego State - I love the college level of sports.
• I DISLIKE spiders, snakes, GDSOB Scorpions, people who play games (relationship ones), and who don't think girls can be any good at sports, catty females, unsportsmanlike like conduct, umpires who need glasses and a rule book, the designated hitter, the Yankees, Giants, 49ers, Raiders, liars and judgmental people.

May the Warm Winds of Heaven blow softly upon your house.
May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there.
May your Moccasins make happy tracks in many snows,
and may the Rainbow always touch your shoulder.
Alan Seeger. 1888–1916
"I Have a Rendezvous with Death"
I HAVE a rendezvous with Death At some disputed barricade, When spring comes back with rustling shade And apple-blossoms fill the air— I have a rendezvous with Death When spring brings back blue days and fair.
It may be he shall take my hand And lead me into his dark land And close my eyes and quench my breath— It may be I shall pass him still. I have a rendezvous with Death On some scarred slope of battered hill, When spring comes round again this year And the first meadow-flowers appear.
God knows 'twere better to be deep Pillowed in silk and scented down, Where love throbs out in blissful sleep, Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath, Where hushed awakenings are dear... But I've a rendezvous with Death At midnight in some flaming town, When Spring trips north again this year, And I to my pledged word am true, I shall not fail that rendezvous.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

• Old classmates and friends • Family still living in Pennsylvania, Ireland and Spain • Other lefties, athletes, scholars, firefighters, scientists, actors • Those who enjoy sunsets, the ocean, classical music, wine, conversation, horses, the outdoors, singing out loud & not caring what people think, wide open spaces, and the vast ocean of space...oh, and people who think light-sabers are cool.

Favorite quotes and sayings:
“May the love hidden deep inside your heart find the love waiting in your dreams. May the laughter that you find in your tomorrow wipe away the pain you find in your yesterdays.”
unknown
“Somewhere there is someone that dreams of your smile, and finds in your presence that life is worthwhile, so when you are lonely remember it’s true, someone somewhere is thinking of you.” unknown

"Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking together in the same direction."
Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people."

In every country, we should be teaching our children the scientific method and the reasons for a Bill of Rights. With it comes a certain decency, humility and community spirit. In the demon-haunted world that we inhabit by virtue of being human, this may be all that stands between us and the enveloping darkness.

One glance at a book and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for 1,000 years. To read is to voyage through time.

Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep insights can be winnowed from deep nonsense.

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

When you make the finding yourself - even if you're the last person on Earth to see the light - you'll never forget it.

Carl Sagan

The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter. - Mark Twain

A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval. - Mark Twain

“May the love hidden deep inside your heart find the love waiting in your dreams. May the laughter that you find in your tomorrow wipe away the pain you find in your yesterdays.” - unknown

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein

Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved" - William Jennings Bryan

“The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.” - unknown
