A late model protocol droid, 4-LOM began his life on Darlyn Boda and worked as a Valet and human-cyborg relations specialist aboard the passenger liner Kuari Princess. A faithful, trusted and loyal droid until he safeguarded a spiecial crystal, the Ankarres Sapphire, with healing powers from a fat, stupid rich woman who was clumsy with her possessions. With the thrills 4-LOM got with stealing he continued. He soon became a master thief and before long had attracted the attentions of Jabba the Hutt.
Jabba agreed with the droid to alter 4-LOMs programming so that he could respond to the threat of violence with the same degree of skill he had in pilfering. In return for this, 4-LOM agreed to work for Jabba as a bounty hunter.
In his new profession 4-LOM was quickly paired with another of Jabba's minions, Zuckuss, a Gand tracker with a glowing résumé of bounties. The droid watched and learned from the more experienced hunter, trying to gain some of the intuition and instinct his living counterpart was blessed with. The pair were very successful together, but did miss out on the big prize, Han Solo, who they failed to catch for Jabba and Darth Vader when they were summoned aboard the Sith lords Star Destroyer, the Executer. Whilst pursuing Solo and the Millennium Falcon they severely damaged the final Rebel transport to try and leave Hoth, they then helped the 90 trapped Rebels out in an attempt to be brought to Solo and crew once they were a part of the Rebellion. This was also relayed to the Imperials who were severly embarressed when discovering they had changed sides. They had changed sides as 4-LOM and Zuckuss were treated as equals so stayed and joined the Rebellion.
Having rescued the Rebel soldiers, 4-LOM and Zuckuss headed off in pursuit of Boba Fett to try and claim Han Solo's carbon frozen body from him. But, as with all the other attempts made by the various other bounty hunters that learned of Boba Fetts' prize capture to wrest the Corellian off of him, they failed. Originally they would head to Jabba's palace but after what had happened Jabba would not take to kindly to it.
4-LOM had finally achieved his goal; intuition. Also 4-LOM and Zuckuss formed the new Bounty Hunter Guild which was overseen by the Rebel Alliance.
