UPDATE 9.23.08:
Canvas Clothing was started in June '07 when Chris Straehla brought me the first shirt design, we printed it, and put it up online. It was a vision I had for a long time. There are so many talented artists out there, but noone knows who they are. I wanted to find a way to spotlight them, a way for people to see their talent and get to know them and maybe in the process even get those artists more work. Unfortunately, Canvas Clothing was pretty much dead in the water from the get go. CC was started the same time my wife and I started our non-profit, The Love Alliance. TLA took priority and has pretty much taken over my life since then.
Being out on tour this summer, made me wish Canvas Clothing was there with me. There are so many horrible and cheesy shirt designs out there, it is almost depressing. Real art needs to be printed, people need to see the talent that is out there. With that being said, I am hoping to revamp and rejuvinate Canvas Clothing this winter. I already have several designs waiting to be printed. A name change will probably be in the works (come to find out Canvas is the name of Bella's men's clothing). So be on the lookout for something new in 2009. In the meantime, we would love to hear from you. If you are a designer and want to get involved let us know. There are a few "Alive" shirts left in the webstore, if we don't have your size email me because I might have your size somewhere in my house. I am excited about the future.
VISION:
Canvas Clothing is a brand that is designed by artists and gives credit to those artists for their work. It is very rare that you can look at a great shirt design and know who the artist is that designed it. Now you can know who designed the shirt, find out a little more about them, and maybe even buy some more of their art. Each Canvas Clothing shirt has the artist's signature printed on it, along with a card attached about the artist and the concept of their design. Every Canvas Clothing shirt changes from just another shirt to a piece of art.
In Canvas Clothing's efforts to make clothing meaningful, many shirts will be designed by artists to support the relief of injustices within the world. A large percentage of the proceeds will go directly to the specific issue the shirt is addressing. Along with the artist's signature printed on the shirt, the name of the organization receiving funds will also be printed. A flyer card will come with the shirt that describes the crisis being addressed by the shirt along with ways they can get involved in making a difference.
