Jon Gerdemann - Audio Engineer, Producer, Live Sound Engineer and Photographer
Audio Engineering...
I do all kinds of audio engineering from Studio work to on set recording for Films and TV Productions, as well as Post Production, Mixing and Mastering. I contract out of local recording studios, as well as have my own studio.
My Studio...
I use whatever equipment suits the project. Not all projects are the same, and they dont all require the same tools for the job. I run on a Mac, and use Pro-Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, Ableton Live, and also have Auto-Tune, as well as a variety of tools to get the job done.
I have a variety of professional microphones, mic pres, as well as lots of quality outboard gear, and a great analog sound board for old school mixing if desired.
I also have some great instruments for excellent recordings, including (but not limited to) a hand made Spanish guitar (from Spain!), a 1991 Custom American Fender Strat, A Blueridge five string Banjo, Epiphone acoustic guitar, Korg Radias, Basses, percussion instruments, and a giant sample and sound effects library.
Producing...
Have an idea for a song, but are having trouble getting it the way you hear it in your head? Or do you want to just try new things and take your music to the next level? I can help! I have plenty of experience hearing your rough takes and turning them into professional sounding tunes!
Live Engineering...
I also have lots of experience working in all kinds of venues doing Front of House and Monitor mixing for all types of music and acts.
Photography...
One of my first passions, Ive been working on a professional and free lance basis for 10+ years, and until recently have exclusively used manual film cameras. But times change, and the demand for faster product meant that I had to step into the digital age. So I got an amazing digital SLR camera with some great lenses, and have begun anew without compromising the quality of my work. You can see some of my photography on my web-site: http://cymbaline.org
ABOUT THE SONGS
"Excise Duties"
Leïdo is a Reggea/Dub band from the south of France. It was a real treat working with them, they are incredibly tallented and a pleasure to have in the studio. This song was recorded in 2007 in Nice, France.
"Song Two - Dao"
This was an experament from the get go. A friend brought over an old toy keyboard from the 70s and a guitar effects processor and ran a built in beat through the effects. From there we built the song up, and as a final touch we added a clip of renouned Theologist Allen Watts speaking about Daoism. This project began late one evening in 2004, and before sunrise it was finished.
"So Lonesome I Could Cry"
A classic tune from Hank Williams, wonderfully performed my the tallented James Dalton. This was one of those great little sessions on a lazy Sunday where it just happened to turn out great, and the little mistakes wind up adding to the charm of this great song.
"Kate"
Wildly experamental, Geppetto Gestapo is an ongoing project between my friends and I. This began as a song idea whispered into a dictaphone, and the song composed it's self around the initial rough take. Then we re-cut the vocals in the studio.
"Le Temps Qui Passe"
While I was in France I had a number of collaborations with Bilou le Skankerfou, a local artist and audio engineer, and my partner in crime during the years that I lived there. This was a song written on the spot, and is composed primarily of rough takes. I thought the song had something to it, and later on dug up the session and remixed it. I play the banjo, ebow and tablas on this song.
