More than four sisters with a rare combination of beauty, energy, charisma, and talent...
More than even a family that has survived long, hard times, never losing sight of their dreams...
THE BEU SISTERS are, in fact a phenomenon in the making and are already writing, singing, and carving themselves into music history.
Their debut album, DECISIONS, boasts 13 songs that tell their story.
To quote their review in BILLBOARD MAGAZINE;
"While the environment for instantly accessible melodic music is often hostile at top 40 radio these days, one must remain optimistic that true talent will rise to the top. THE BEU SISTERS demonstrate enormous versatility on their upcoming DECISIONS. All involved should pop the champagne cork for an effort that radiates joy, humor, passion, and artful, unaffected singing. These gals are simply wonderful."
THE BEU SISTERS; Candice, Christie, Jilaine and Danielle, have created their vision hands-on.
Simply put, there is nobody like THE BEU SISTERS in music today.
For these gifted girls and their four siblings, the story began in New York City. Both of their parents have been in show business their whole lives; each performing in a myriad of successful productions, from Broadways "THE HAPPY TIME" where their parents met, to the inovative hit show,"A CHORUS LINE"(one of the characters is based on their father, Andy Beu) To numerous touring companies of the hit musical "SUGAR"(their mother, Mary Ann OReilly played the lead role).
Theirs was an unconventional yet incredibly secure early life, spent growing up backstage, and touring with their parents. They observed the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of a career in the entertainment industry. The girls are fourth generation songwriters and performers.
In 1989 the family relocated to a coastal town in Florida. The lifestyle suited them, and as soon as they became settled each of the girls individual talents started to flourish. Candice was painting, drawing, and garnering local awards for her early art work; Christie took up surfing (a passion that would lead her to take first place at the Womens East Coast Surfing Championships at Sabastian Inlet in 2000); Jilaine was showing a strong interest in costume design and dress making; and Danielle was simply enjoying life at the beach, studying at home and spending time with her big sisters.
Everything at the Beu household was both productive and artistically stable until 1994, when their parents divorced, changing their lives, and shifting the focus of the family.
Inevitably they drew even closer--and music, which had always been their bond, took on a greater importance. Their mother used the music as a means to keep them focused on the future, instead of looking back at what they had lost.
"Danielle was only six years old when we first sang together - all four of us girls and Mom," recalls Jilaine, "But even then we all knew there was magic in it. Music gave us something to work for: a time when we wouldnt have to worry what tomorrow would bring."
Scraping together what little money they had, Mom and Christie financed the demos they cut in 1996, containing four original songs written by their Mom. Through nurturing and encouragement the girls evolved into consummate songwriters in their own right. These demos provided the cornerstone on which they began to build their act. They practiced in their living room and developed dance routines in front of a large mirror just big enough to see all of them. Matching costumes were assembled by buying five of the same outfit that Mom would tailor to fit each girl, using the left over material from Danielles dress to create a mini copy for their baby sister, who often performed their closing number with them. Most of their meager budget went into their shoes. Mom being a dancer, knew the importance of "good" dance shoes, for safety and comfort. And when the girls all wore red shoes for a performance, Candice took a pair of baby Gabrielles white sandals and painted them with red nail polish to match her big sisters red shoes. Everything was a team effort.
With Christie at the helm, arranging the vocal parts, The Beu Sisters learned most of their songs a cappella, singing ideas back and forth. As a result, through this combination of improvisation and intuition, their harmonies developed a synchronicity that makes their sound both fresh and distinctive.
Through all the adversities, The Beu Sisters could not be stopped. Hard work and perseverance, began to pay off. Soon they were opening for various recording stars, garnering rave reviews every time they played.
The next step was to put together a professional quality video of their live performance that would be used as a promotional tool, to help them get a deal. After months of mailings, and the faith that this was their destiny, their last tape ended up in the hands of Desmond Child ( famed for co-writing hits for KISS, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher and Ricky Martin). Three days later, a call came asking them to audition at Childs Miami home.
The girls took on the challenge, with only a two day notice.
An exciting, but nervous drive to Miami, gave way to a warm welcome from their host. They performed their best material under unusual yet magical conditions. Upon arriving they had no idea that they had been invited to sing at Desmonds Christmas party. So with no sound system, only the acoustics from his beautiful living room, and lit by the light of a fourteen foot tall Christmas tree, the girls entertained Desmond and his high profile guests. From total stillness to thunderous applause, the girls were affirmed by their future peers. The champagne was popped and a second visit was set up at Childs home a few months later. This time in the girls honor. This was their destined meeting with Steve Greenberg, President of the newly formed S-Curve Records (recognized as a Grammy Award winning producer and for discovering the 10X platinum Hansons and The 4X platinum Baha Men). The result of that meeting was a recording contract with S-Curve Records.
Their first album titled Decisions, received rave reviews.
