Hello everyone. Erik Freitag aka Lord Waterhead here. Here's a bit of history...
The Diatribe Magazine is a Twin Ports based (Duluth, MN/Superior, WI and surrounding areas) rag aimed at bringing the local metal community to a larger stage as well as helping create a local buzz on bands from other parts of the planet; both by way of interviews, CD reviews, ads, etc.
The magazine came in to being back on early 2007 as a supplement to the many shows I was booking at the time. Originally called THE PROSCRIPTOR, I took my idea to the streets to try and generate interest. Well, for the most part, people couldn't get past the name so I opted for the more approachable sounding (but more astute in definition) THE DIATRIBE and on May 11th, the four page, 50 issue inaugural Diatribe was born. It featured the band SOLACE OF REQUIEM and the local female rollerderby team THE HARBOR CITY ROLLERDAMES. To my amazement, all 50 copies disappeared that night.
Some main goals I want to accomplish (and have been quite successful at so far) with this magazine is to help promote and support shows and festivals locally that I felt didn't receive any recognition from other media outlets. Another big one was to create and maintain a sense of community, commerce, and maybe even friendly competition between small businesses that choose to advertise with this magazine. But the biggest one is, is to have a rag that the rock and metal fans in this area and abroad can be proud of as a representative of their scene.
Now in it's third year of operation, The Diatribe is going stronger than ever. It is distributed all over Minnesota and Wisconsin and has subscribers on both coasts. And on behalf of the magazine, as long as you continue to read it, I'll continue to print it.
OBTW, I'm always up for questions, comments and criticism and would like to hear what you have to say so please sound off and let me know what you think of my magazine.
Thanks!
