About Me

Winter 2008: Working on new material for a new album for Freestyle Records.2005: After a couple of years in exile and working on new material the Copenhagen jazz funksters are about to enter the scene again with a fresh approach. The new album “Mirrors” is due early February and while they previous had a more broken beat or nu jazz orientated sound they now have a very sophisticated and organic jazz feel that for sure will go down well with the dj’s of the scene and with listeners alike. Though it should be said without loosing the Universal Funk touch and their tight beats. Mirrors is one step further for U.F. as the album digs into a variety of music styles which just shows how talented these guys really are. Whatever it’s jazz or electronica club stuff they can handle it. They have this time put focus on the vocals and are getting help from local jazz vocalists Thulla and Christina Boelskifte and have upcoming Philly rapper Shaun Walker as special guest on two tracks. Also spoken word maestro Daniel Gray who featured on Ursula Rucker’s highly acclaimed “Supa Sister” is showing his cool style on the last track of the album. The sources of inspiration is clearly 4 Hero, St. Germain, Bugs In The Attic and a bit of Neptunes fused with a touch of retro Scandinavian jazz for a unique blend of urban Scandinavian sound.Their debut from 2001 “One” generated much hype from top jocks around the globe and their 12” ”Streets of Havana” featured a Swell Session remix and was play listed by Giles Peterson, Nik Weston and Adrian Gibson just to name a few. The hype continued and Universal Funk was invited to play live at the London Jazz Café in 2002. Various tracks from the album also featured on more than 30 compilations worldwide.
