About Me

Limited Release at Shows Only!

The 2005 Demos will no longer be made.

Until the release of our debut CD as a duo, Opus Four, we will have "Shit Eating Grin: Demos as of March 2007". We’ll be selling the new demo at our shows for a limited time for $3. We’re recording a full CD, but we realized our current demo is too dated. The new album should be ready in Summer 2007. Drum tracks are done. The 2007 demos will have 14 tracks, 9 not from the 2005 demos. The new tracks are rough recordings from The Pealer Ranch where we rehearse. The new album will not have any of these tracks. Opus 4 is being recording by David Irish at Music, Inc. Here’s the cover, featuring Cary’s son Max:
The Punk As A Doornail Bio (This bio is meant to be read with your most authoritative voice. Maybe a politician giving an inaugural speech or a narrator from The History Channel!!! Good Luck and enjoy.)
In the Fall of 1999, Keith Irish went into the garage and transformed his old skateboard, from a childhood toy he lacked the skills to enjoy, and optimize its performance into a guitar that required little effort to produce a wretched noise that most thrash guitarists strive for. Cary Pealer joined on drums and Punk As A Doornail was born under the sunny skies of Fullerton, California. What they did to begin the new century was what they called Flogging The Punk Horse. Six years later, the duo decided to hone their drunken monster into a functional touring act and wrote their first song, Im Glad Blink Broke Up.
The lyrics of the songs to come were reminiscent of The Dead Milkmen and possibly The Butthole Surfers. Fart jokes, blunt humor and self-mockery turned to be predominant and blurted over a sound indicative of no wave, such as Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, The Contortions and DNA. The homemade musical instruments are an outlet for Keith’s obsession with Harry Partch and Einstruzende Neubauten. As a whole, Cary and Keith were equally intrigued by Flipper and The Screamers, giving Punk As A Doornail a familiar personality.
Though the modest skatarist proclaimed that the band was normal, The OC Weekly concluded that Punk As A Doornail was just plain weird and anointed them as one of the best bands to ever come out of Orange County. The underlining principle of Punk As A Doornail is to go out and have a good time. The limitations of music scenes and fashionable attitudes are far too much of a buzzkill for the creativity Cary and Keith wish to entertain. No genre or type shall escape the laughter of Punk As A Doornail, including whatever name might be coined to describe the form. And thus, as the old saying goes, Its scarier to be sober.
