Savage Beauty by Nancy Milford
The first biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay written with the help of her sister Cora, the guardian of Millay's notebooks and correspondence.
I was first introduced to a quatrain of Millay's because I am distantly related to her.
My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night
But ah, my foes, and o, my friends
It makes a lovely light.
Her life is dramatic and scandalous, and the book is the story of a woman who lived life to the fullest. It's taking me a while to finish the book, but that's because I'd rather live my life a little like Vincent than read a lot about her.
