About Me

Every Breath you take

|CRIS DELANNO Cris began singing in the Children’s Choir of Rio de Janeiro’s Municipal Theatre when she was only five, where she took part in operas such as La Boh..me, Carmen and Tosca.Although she is Brazilian, Cris was born in Texas and was heavily influenced by American music, especially gospel music, due to her experience as a soloist in the African American Unity Choir. In 1999 she interpreted one of Bossa Nova’s most remarkable singers, Nara Leão, in the show Nara - Uma Senhora Opinião, under the general direction of Solange Kafuri. Her performance in this show – which was later recorded as a live CD – was largely acclaimed and led her to a play a small role in prime-time soap opera As Filhas da Mãe. The soap was broadcast on Rede Globo, Brazil’s largest TV station, and was viewed by millions of people across the nation.Cris went on to become a member of the Brazilian Laryngology and Voice Society and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. The skills and knowledge she acquired as a member of these two groups, led her to publish a book on vocal practices, Mais que Nunca .. Preciso Cantar, in which she describes the basic notions of popular singing technique. She recorded two CDs for the project Grandes Can....es. First, Cl..ssicos de Tom Jobim, (Tom Jobim Classics), produced and arranged by Roberto Menescal and second, Cl..ssicos do Cinema (Classic Movie Theme Songs). In 2001 she released the CD Filha da P..tria and put together a show to promote the album. The CD’s repertoire encompasses both classic and contemporary Brazilian songs which touch upon the vast universe of feminine emotions. Due to its success, the CD was later repackaged and released in Japan in December 2004.In the beginning of 2002 she recorded the CD Caminhos Cruzados – Cris Delanno Canta Newton Mendon..a, an interpretation of Newton Mendon..a’s compositions. The late composer was best known for his long-lasting partnership with Tom Jobim, with whom he wrote several songs that would later become a reference for Brazilian music, such as Samba de Uma Nota S.. and Desafinado.Soon after, Cris gained international recognition. In 2002 she toured both Europe and Japan, performing in important music festivals such as the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and North Sea in Holland as well as in the renowned jazz club Ronnie Scott in London. When she returned to Brazil, she received an invitation to sing at the 2002 Latin Grammy Awards, due to her acclaimed performances as guest vocalist in two Grammy nominated albums. First, in the album Jobiniando, in which prominent Brazilian artist Ivan Lins pays tribute to Tom Jobim. Second, in the album Brasilidade, recorded and produced by Bossacucanova, a Rio-based trio made up of three producer/musicians: Alex Moreira, Marcio Menescal and Marcelinho Da Lua.In October 2003, she released the CD Eu e Cris (Cris and I) both in Brazil and in Japan. The album results from the 16 year-old collaborative effort between herself and Roberto Menescal, one of Bossa Nova’s icons. Highly praised by critics, the CD is a mixed collection of songs that Cris and Menescal liked to play backstage while they were warming up for a show. The prolific duet is already working on the production of their second CD, which they plan to release in 2005.Her partnership with Bossacucanova continues to thrive. The group’s third CD, Uma Batida Diferente (A Different Beat), was released in September 2004 and includes four tracks sung by Cris. She currently joins the group in their 2005 tour across Europe and the United States. In 2006, Cris released new CD “Cris Delanno” for Japanese label “Rio Grande”, with musical direction and arrangements by Roberto Menescal and musical production by Alex Moreira (from Bossacucanova). This album was recorded live in AR studios –Rio de Janeiro. In 2006 she made concerts with the guitar player Andy Summers (The Police) .Cris Delanno is a contemporary artist, conscious of her surroundings and upcoming trends. On the other hand, she strives to stay true to the roots of Brazilian music while adding her own personal touches.Discography: 1995: Cris em Tom Maior.
