Born in Volos, Greece pianist Maria Pikoula has been an active soloist with performances in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Toronto, Moscow, Greece and Cyprus. In February 2008 she gave her official New York debut recital at Carnegie Hall. She has been honored as a featured artist at the Hellenic Consulate in New York in addition to giving a special performance for Greece’s Ambassador to the U.S. An active and avid chamber musician, Maria Pikoula is also a founding member of the IRIS PIANO TRIO with Jeanie Lee (violin) and Soona Chang (cello).
Her various honors and awards include First Prize and Gold Medal at the HON Hellenic National Competition, the GWUC National Music Competition in Chicago, and the Hellenic American Women’s Music Awards. At age seventeen, she graduated from the Volos Municipal Conservatory with First Prize in Performance and the Highest Special Honors. She is also a Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation Award Winner.
Maria Pikoula received her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Toronto. Her past teachers have included Arkady Aronov, Boris Lysenko and Dino Mastroyannis. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree under Anthony di Bonaventura at Boston University.
