The Sways

100% Pure Tangerine

About Me

’Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to The Sways, the eccentric offspring of folk country blues and, erm, in our humble opinion, Spike Milligan. A band whose album, International Orange we’re still trying to work out and yet still playing. A band who in their own words are the musical equivalent of Marmite. Veering between the truly quirky (The Riddle Of Llaslek Mot, sort of like The Goodies playing an English Garden Tea Party and who the hell is Llaslek Mot anyway?), and the gently affecting (The Snare) The Sways have broken out of the same pastoral stable that houses the likes of British Sea Power and The Coral to head for the Wild West...’

1. In a chilled glass, place a large measure of Tancherin (a little-known spirit from southern France); Cointreau is adequate

2. Add a good swill of Bourbon

3. Drip Tobasco to taste

4. Top up with Olde Englishe lemonade

5. Garnish with a juicy slice of ripe Tangerine

’One of the most arresting albums from the last twelve months worth of underground guitar music. Its alt.country of a sort, the type that goes past the established broodiness of Handsome Family, Broken Family Band and the like, and into twitchy, bug-eyed freak outbursts that aren’t entirely unlike The Bad Seeds on a treadmill ... The Sways have put together something a bit special here’

’Unlike anything I’ve ever heard before ... This is an album which is begging to heard and as its near impossible to put the pure strangeness of it into words, just go pick up a copy to find out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed’
[ Subba-Cultcha ]
Engaging and unusual and a lot of fun ... an interesting and unusual mix from an up-and-coming English band
