About Me

Born in Magog, 1977, Province of Quebec. Daughter of Fernand Guyon, avid collector of art and "antiquites Quebecoise" and of Rita Brousseau, Irish/Native mother. It's in a house full of Antiques and paintings that Guyon grew up. In her surrounding the young female artist grew up loving and being influenced by artists such as; Riopelle, Rousseau, Sylvestre, Cosgrove and the legendary French Canadian painter Normand Hudon. As far as the artist remembers, creating was always a major activity in her life. It's at the age of 14 years old that the artist received a direct call to paint. She remembers waking up one morning and hearing a voice in her head saying: "go get some paint and brushes, you will start painting". The young artist to be, took some of her saving and hitch-hiked a ride to town and there she bought the necessary to start her new hobby.1995 at the age of 18 years old, Karine enters "La Maison du Point Tournant", a recovery house for drug abusers. There the young artist recovers from a tormented youth and is encouraged to develop her obvious artistic gifts. She starts painting on every given surfaces, guitar cases, canvas and walls. 1997 Karine enters Bishop University Fine Art Program, but drops out of school a year later, thinking that there is no need for her to be 30,000$ in debt for a bachelor of Art. She decides that if she is to become an artist, she would become one without a government paper. For the next 8 years Karine travels in more then ten different countries. She moves to cities such as Jasper, Montreal, Vancouver, Whistler and experiences life to it's fullest. She spends time studying subjects like religion, spirituality, music, dance and linguistics. Through it all she never stops painting. It's only in 2005 that the artist starts to take her art more seriously and exhibit for the first time in coffee shops. In 2006 Guyon brings some changes to her lifestyle and realises that no matter how hard she tried to avoid it, painting is her calling. Since then the young emerging artist as been working hard to be able to continue developing a style that is unique to her. Back in Vancouver, it's on Cordova Street that you can find Guyon living and painting . In her studio, located in Canada's poorest ghetto, the Eastside Vancouver, Karine finds inspiration and satisfaction in painting the world and the people around her.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I paint what I see in people, on the streets, on the walls and in my soul. I paint my reality and my surrounding, my darkness and the other's inner darkness. When I paint I make a conscious difference between drawing and painting. I am developing a technic of composing and decomposing. I decompose my paintings to exploit and expose the different layers of history hidden under every layers of colors. Sometime you can see remainings of images, words, sentences and even poems hidden just like we hide our feelings in the depth of ourselves. On these canvasses, on that decomposition I draw caracters from my surrounding or sometimes invented caracters that immerged from my imaginary univers. When I paint I am, when I don't paint, I don't exist.
