Bang On The Ear

About Me

Born in early 1996 'Bang on the Ear' started out as a mostly traditional Irish/folk band playing mainly in folk clubs around the Midlands, but as the band naturally progressed more professional gigs beckoned. The band then started playing lots of pub venues such as the O'Neill's chain and other assorted pubs and clubs around the country, along with many varied private functions and the occasional festival. Weddings, Birthdays and all other sorts of functions have witnessed the upbeat mix of Irish and contemporary folk, rock 'n' roll, blues & pop/rock which have become the mainstay of the bands live set. The band have a very varied program of music ranging from traditional Irish songs and tunes to more contemporary Irish music such as the Pogues, Van Morrison, the Saw Doctors, Goats Don't Shave, Christy Moore and U2 . The band have a fondness for the songs of Lennon & McCartney and several always make an appearance during the set! As well as self penned songs, there is also a mix of old rock 'n' roll numbers, some old blues and the occasional classic rock number! Its a very eclectic mix which remains mostly up tempo throughout, pleasing all ages and keeping feet tapping for hours. All delivered in Bang on the Ear's own inimittable style, definately a live act not to be missed! The band have played over 2000 gigs in their 12 plus years together and career highlights to date include support slots with Steve Tilston and Little Johnny England, several folk festivals including headline slots and a gig in Minehead for the RNLI to approx 8000 people! We are privilaged to have a couple of incredible dep (stand in) drummers for those times of need which include Tom Farnell formerly of Fairport Convention (1972-1973) and Mike Kellie formerly of Spooky Tooth and the (currently reformed) Only Ones. Kel and Jez also work together as a duo under the same name.
