About Me

My Dad sent this to me as an inspiration to play music every goddamn day and never get a real job. He kicks ass:

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it."

Mars Volta, No Means No, Mr. Bungle, Melvins, Fantomas, Superchunk, Supersuckers, De La Soul, Oingo Boingo, The Knife, Rocket From the Crypt, Sigur Ros, Noam Chomsky, Oasis, Drive Like Jehu, Patton Oswalt, Hot Snakes, Play Pretty for Baby, Refused, Wilco, Bloc Party, The Rentals, The Bravery, Elliot Smith, Casket Life, Weezer, Jawbreaker, Bjork, Muse, Converge, Led Zeppelin, QOTSA, Foo Fighters, Little Feat, Alice Donut, AC/DC, Paul Simon, vinyl stand up comedy, Drive By Truckers, David Cross, Angry Samoans, DTs, Crooks, Iron Maiden, Zach Galifinakis, Skid Row, Jeff Buckley, Yancey, Faith No More, Tribe Called Quest, Helmet, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Murder City Devils, Fiona Apple, Beck, Music Man Soundtrack, Dwarves, B-52s, Fishbone, early Metallica, early Van Halen, Hendrix, Scared of Chaka, Ry Cooder, Firehose, Hellworms, Spot 1019, Dillinger Four, The Beatles, early Def Leppard, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Misfits, Biz Markie, Madonna, Claw Hammer, The Cars, Ozzie, Tribe Called Quest, David Lee Roth, Rancid, The Hives, Nuisance, Victims Family, Fleshies, Nofx, The Rum Diary, All, Descendents, Bad Religion, Melt Banana, Bob Marley, Maria Muldaur, Ricky Lee Jones, Pat Metheny, Level 42, Outkast, Gnarles Barkley, Old Crowe Medicine Show, Organic, Slowride, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Zeke, U2, Talking Heads, Ratt, Dillinger Escape Plan, Gwar, Smashing Pumpkins, RKL, Shellac, Hot Water Music, Alkaline Trio, Soundgarden, BR549, Steel Pole Bathtub, Jackson Browne, Praxis, Jane's Addiction, Pink, Anthrax, Beastie Boys, Bad Brains, Grimace, Meat Puppets, Nirvana, Brainoil.....

Movies:

Martin Scorsese, Dr. Strangelove, Fletch, Life of Brian, Old School, Def Leppard dramatization starring Anthony Michael Hall as Mutt Lange, Music Docs, Need to get more into Werner Herzog, Charlie Kaufman, Wes Anderson (earlier better? Bottle Rocket is pure genius), The Grifters, John Cusack, Coen Brothers, LOTR series, the OG Star Wars trilogy...

Television:

The Office (British obviously, not to be snooty about it, but the US one really doesn't live up), Simpsons, Family Guy, Arrested Development, The Daily Show, sports, some other crap...if I actually sat down and watched TV I would watch a lot of HBO shows like Dead Wood and Entourage and Sopranos and Six Feet Under, although those are done now, maybe some Comedy Central and some Adult Swim, History Channel, Discovery Channel, Shark Week. As much as I try to avoid it, it's probably for the best when I do watch TV...less time wasted on My Space.

Books:

Reading Kurt Vonnegut - Timequake. Lies My Teacher Told Me is really good stuff. Makes you doubt most of what you read subsequently however in terms of historical reference. Just read a whole lot of David Sedaris. He reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut actually in the fact that his observations of mundane reality are presented so perfectly and succinctly. It really makes you feel less alone in the world.

Heroes:

Steve Gadd, people who get shit done, my family.
