I've been playing the drums since I was 11 years old and have loved live music from an even earlier age. My family is responsible for showing me how great playing music for people can be and always took me along to gigs and let me hang out on stage while they set-up. So I have aspired to have a musical career for most of my life.I have studied privately with Brad O'Connor (Garfield Cadets), Keith MacMichael (White Willow, Deanna Bogart, Marge Calhoun, Steve Dorman Project, Barry Gurley) and Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin & Wood). I believe that the drums should be taught in a relaxed environment with an emphasis on proper technique and comfort behind the instrument. The drums, whether just the snare drum or working with a full kit, require more physicality than most instruments so being comfortable is very important to the player. Tension and stress on muscles don't help the performer have any presence musically, and can make the player uncomfortable in a matter of minutes, so being relaxed while playing is a large part of what I teach drummers. I welcome students of all ages and skill levels into my teaching program and I feel I have a lot of experience for anyone to draw from. In addition to teaching about fifty students a week I also play in various bands. My music spans from jazz and funk to blues and pop.
