Novus OFFice (Dj Novus/Groove Coverage)

About Me

On 07.11.1976 in a Bavarian monastery in Germany, Dj NOVUS a little star was born.In 1995, inspired by various rave parties in Munich, he started his DJ career within the four walls of his parental home – much to the “decibel-technical” annoyance of his parents. Known under his pseudonym “Novus” (Latin for “new”) he rapidly cast a spell on the regional crowds with his “Hands-up-Party Trance” and generated (unknowingly during an interview at the time) the term for today’s musical style “Handz-UP”. Friends and fans followed him on buses to his appearances and numerous bookings far beyond the borders of his home state of Bavaria soon followed. In cooperation with his friends from Suprime Music in Ingolstadt, the project “Groove Coverage” was founded overnight by Markus (DJ Novus) and Axel Konrad (Suprime Music) in summer 2001. The debut single entered the Dance/Club charts both in Germany and abroad. “Are u ready” should have been a sign of what was to come for DJ Novus and the entire Suprime Music team, because with the second track came the final major breakthrough and a success that nobody would have even dared to imagine. The cover version of Mike Oldfield’s classic hit “Moonlight Shadow” climbed to Number 3 in the Media Control charts and blessed DJ Novus – by now residing in Landshut (Bavaria) – with a 14 week residence in the Top 20 of the German Singles charts and a mega success around the globe too. A Gold Disc for more than 250,000 records sold, two nominations for an “Echo” award and many other music awards and TV appearances on VIVA, MTV, ZDF, RTL, RTL2 etc. followed – a dream came true! Groove Coverage climbed to become the absolute pole position act in the dance scene. More successes were to follow, something which no one else from the scene had ever experienced before.Concurrent with the third single, which must also be the fastest self-composed No. 1 on the German DJ Playlist (“God Is A Girl”, Media Control: 8), GC released their first album called “Cover Girl” at the end of 2002. This album is still considered today to be one of the best albums among dance fans.Featuring the very expressive and emotional vocals of Verena and Mell, who also contributed the vocals for the first GC album, it wasn’t long before the 4th single was in the pipeline. “The End” (Media Control Charts Number 13) didn’t mean the end, in fact it signalled the beginning of the second album.Groove Coverage’s rendition of Alice Cooper’s “Poison” (Media Control Charts Number 7) was another highlight and remained in the Top 15 of the German Singles charts for over 10 weeks. The track then entered the UK charts at Number 32 and a few months later it entered the Top 30 in the American Billboard Dance charts. In March 2004 it was finally time for GC to release their second album (Germany: Top 20 Media Control Album Charts; Indonesia Platinum Status !!!) and at the same time the next dance smash hit single “7 Years & 50 Days” (Media Control Charts Number16).Their summer excursion with the rather pop-orientated song “SHE” made it to Number 18 in the Media Control Charts and it was rewarded by a sensational Top 20 ranking in the German Radio charts. SHE was played on German radio throughout the whole summer and wasn’t just a hit with dance music fans. The 8th single, which was the last track to be taken from the 2nd album, made the fans’ dreams come true when “Runaway” was released as a CD single which included an action video featuring guest star Kai Ebel, a Formula 1 racing presenter from the German RTL TV station. This single entered the Top 20 in the Media Control single charts. The classic track “Fatamorgana” by Austrian band, EAV, received the GC treatment at the end of 2005. Featuring the typical GC trademark sound, they penned the dance hit “Holy Virgin” (Media Control Germany: Number 30) which was to be the first taster from the album planned for 2006.GC’s 10th single “On the Radio” achieved from the outset something which nobody at the time had dared to do without video rotation on the big music TV channels. The high entry into the charts had worked once again and the track reached Number 21 in the German charts. Not resting long on these laurels, 3 months later the 3rd single taken from the forthcoming 3rd Groove Coverage album “21st Century” was released. The subsequent album was planned for summer 2006. “21st century digital girl” was single number 11 for Groove Coverage and climbed to Number 41 in the World Cup summer of 2006. Despite Germany being enchanted by that summer’s World Cup, there was no video rotation during this period and the dance scene was seemingly dead.2007 was not only the year in which listeners to the Sunshine Live radio station voted God Is A Girl as their favourite song of the previous decade, it was also a year of success for Groove Coverage in China. The first single (God Is A Girl) reached Number 1 and there were 1.5 million legal downloads – an absolute coup for an international artist in China. As part of a 2 week tour, there was an appearance on the Chinese equivalent of “Wetten Dass?!”, a show with more than 580 million (!!!) viewers who voted DJ Novus and Mell as their favourite act. This invitation was not only an extraordinary success, but also an honour because Novus and Mell were not only the first German guests, they were also some of the very few foreign international stars who had been invited at that time. The 12th single “Because I love you”, taken from the “Greatest Hits” album released in autumn 2007 (and subsequently worldwide), was an acknowledgement of the roots of Groove Coverage’s success and built on these previous successes to work its way into the ears of their fans.In additional to numerous appearances, Groove Coverage has been in the studio since the beginning of the summer 2008 and they are working on a new album and some new singles.Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, Italy, Africa, France, USA, Singapore, Japan, China, Canada, Indonesia, Brazil, Estonia and Malta are the main countries in which DJ Novus regularly performs to the masses and over the past 13 years these countries have provided him with a busy concert schedule.Groove Coverage, and in particular DJ Novus, have notched up a grand total of 12 Media Control Chart hits (7 of them in the Top 20) in Germany. Their great success on the international stage and their enormous and loyal fan base makes them the crème de la crème of the international dance/pop scene and it is hard to imagine the scene without them.“God is a girl – wherever YOU are !!!“Music Awards:ECHO 2003 (nom.)
