I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Welcome to Barry Haugen's Guitar Repair! I am a 30+ year professional luthier and guitar repairman based in St. Paul, Minnesota. I got my start working in a cool guitar shop in Atlanta, Georgia in 1982. Had the good fortune to do some repairs for R.E.M. and Steve Marriot (Humble Pie) as well as many local players during that time.I eventually remigrated back to Minnesota where I started my career at Knut Koupee Music in 1984. Minneapolis was THE music capital of the world back in the 80's. Bands like Prince and the Revolution, The Replacements, Soul Asylum and The Jayhawks left an indelible impression on the music world, which is still felt today. Knut Koupee was one of the best known, midwestern music store of its day, nationally recognized in equipment and repair service. It was a great place to meet local guitarists and touring national acts. I had the opportunity to work for Prince, Jesse Johnson, Steve Vai, Steve Miller, Ted Nugent, Lenny Kravitz and Dan Fogelberg. And just a short list of the local guitar aces of the day: Charlie Bingham (The Hoopsnakes), Dan Lund, Gary Rue, Jim Boquist, Dave Hussman and Leticia Rae (Slave Raider), Reynold Philipsek, the list goes on and on........Besides the Knut, I did alot of work for the late, great Pete Alenov, owner of Pete's Guitars in St. Paul., Willie's American Guitars, Guitar Center in Roseville, and Dave Rusan Guitar Works, and numerous recording studios in Minneapolis and St. Paul.I've lost count of how many refrets and fret dressing I have done, they are one of my specialties. I'm also know for my acoustic neck re-sets and bridge work.Whether you are a local guitarist or a touring professional in need of professional guitar repair, please let me know. Or perhaps, you are an owner of a music store that would like to ramp up your repair program. Perhaps you live out of the area. No worries, I have had many people send me their guitars in the mail. My goal is complete customer satisfaction. Thanks for stopping by!
