Half of Nothing Records

About Me

We are the record label of SexRat, Del Mar, The Snobs, Dog Party, MysteryMeat, Yamerone Bros, and Grockroo. We love Rock n' Roll. All groups make and own all their music. If you like what you hear buy something, see a show, and tell a friend.

SexRat

Started by SexRat to release their music Half of Nothing Records is growing and planing to release a few records in 2009. A “supergroup” of sorts, each member of this unique band has paid their dues and worked alongside some of the best in the business. Zippy (guitar/lead vocals) is a former member, and fan favorite, of the infamous Long Beach, CA band Bargain Music and has played and recorded with such names as Bud Gaugh (Sublime, Del Mar), C-Money (Slightly Stoopid, John Brown’s Body), Pepper, Dr. Echo, Yamerone Bros. and the Skatanic Rednecks. He also continues to jam with Trulio Disgracias, an exclusive side project spearheaded by Fishbone’s own Norwood Fisher. Devin Hurley (drums/vocals/keys) recorded and toured with Sacramento’s own Frank Jordan for over a decade. Marc Kallweit (bass/vocals) is the creator of Kombi; a revolving improv band that included Tyler Pope (!!!, LCD Soundsystem), Papa Skully & Jason Boggs (Filibuster). Marc has also been held responsible for the birth of SexRat. Currently, all three members jam together with Jason Boggs of Filibuster in a band called SyNcro In the past year, SexRat has been a special guest of The Suicide Girls radio show on Los Angeles’ own Indie 103.1, secured a semi-finalist position in Disc Makers’ IMWS contest and has played in front of thousands of fans. “This is rock the way it was meant to be enjoyed. Great songwriting and interesting unexpected arrangements” says www.jimdunlop.com in reference to SexRat’s “Band of the Week” status. SexRat’s self-titled debut album was completed in late 2007 and released by their very own label, Half of Nothing Records. This raw gem was produced by Matt McCord (Cake, Team Sleep)

Zach “Zippy” Goodin, Devin Hurley and Marc Kallweit have come together to form a nasty, gnarled, in-your-face indie rock mutt, better known as SexRat. Hailing from the shining California capital of Sacramento, this band brings a taste of jammy rock, psychobilly and punk that guarantees to satisfy. Compared to the sounds of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Meat Puppets and The Minutemen, SexRat emits a promising glow of becoming a permanent fixture in the music industry.

Del Mar

Del Mar from Reno NV which includes Bud Gaugh from Sublime and introduces Mike Martinez, Matt Bode, and Nicole Gaugh. This bunch of hoods teamed up with producers Rob Perez and Bert Suzanka from The Ziggen's to record their first record on HONR. Del Mar came together in the winter of '06 as way to keep its band members out of direct trouble with the law. Inspired by all types of GOOD music, Del Mar holds true to its roots with ecclectic eccentric songs & live performances gaurenteed to rock yer pants off. These DIY NITRO burning fools like to drive it hard, but they cool it out with classic surf sounds to get by in the dark world of Reno.

The Snobs

The Snobs fronted by Jason Boggs from Filibuster, Mike Cordano, Jerome, and recently added Zach Zippy Goodin on guitar plan to record in early 2009. Winning best Rock band in Sacramento in 2008 from the Sacramento Area Music Awards, sloshing around town, and just being Snobs these guys are sure to please. Dark, Deep strumming guitar, pounding drums, smooth thunder bass with J. Bogg's heavy sax melodies and strong frontman styles makes it all up. Sometimes a high kick, but no high fives. Looking to hit it big then buy a really big house boat to go on a Nor Cal delta tour.

Dog Party

Do you know how to Party? Sacramento sisters Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles do. The youngest semi finalists in the Jammies (Local Music Awards for Sacramento groups) At the ages of 12 and 10 years this guitar, drum, and vocal two piece known simply as Dog Party have shown people that Rock n' Roll is fun for the whole family. Ripping up their Elementary School, rocking local parks, paying clubs, or just being fun goofy kids is putting smiles on faces from all ages. They have shared the stage with Agent Orange, rocked the California State Capital, and have been featured on world famous indie 103.1's Suicide Girls Radio show. The two young rockers write their own songs, sing harmony, and tear it up on the sugar bowl ski team. Dog Party is currently recording Demo's with Half of Nothing Records, and working on an E.P. of original songs about School, Parents, and the joy's and frustrations of growing up in the U.S.A.

MysteryMeat

After the very underground not quite cult classic Zippy Meets Dr Echo / MysteryMeat record was released in 2002 it is well time to do another. Working with engineer Mike Scheftner and a bunch of other artist including Jerry from Mike Watts Secondmen, SexRat, Dog Party, Jeff, Jason, and Mike from Filibuster, Josh from Bargain Music, and more to come this record is about 1/2 done and release to be in 2009 sometime.

SyNcRo

SyNcRo is SexRat with Jason from The Snobs fronting the band. Lots of instrutmentals and some good ol' dancing music. Look for these guys to play some shows.

The Yamerone Bros.

The Yamerone Brothers are simply the best Bigfoot folk rock band on the Planet. So There! They Are Real! The Yamarone BrothersStarring Tom YamaroneDeep in the heart of the ancient redwoods, animals scurry for cover and the ground shakes with each step they take. Large, hair-covered figures emerge from the forest…are these the elusive bigfoots we hear tell of?Nope, it’s the Yamarone Brothers! That’s what they’re up to when they’re not performing bigfoot songs…stomping around the woods in search of the answers to that mystery.Separated at birth and brought back together by California’s living legends. Chasing down bigfoots finds them stirring up a song every now and then – and these songs tell the stories. Bigfoot stories…they adopted Sex Rat, Del Mar, NPK & the Divebombers and the Yamarone Brothers (starring Tommy Yamarone) feature their driving sounds when they’re with them. Tap your big feet to the driving beat of “the Skookum Cast” and “Jerry Crew (He Knew What To Do)”…snap a branch and knock on wood to the shaky Patterson-Gimlin film tribute “Roger and Bob (Rode Out That Day)”…let out a long, howling scream when you hear “Bobo (Humboldt’s Legendary Squatcher)…You’ll know it’s the Yamarone Brothers when you feel the floor shaking, the earth quaking and catch of whiff of Bobo’s bigfoot blast! You’d be surprised how many people have seen one of them…Tommy, Bobo, Zippy, Dev, Dirty G, Schef, G-man and all the bros.Catch ‘em on Half of Nothing Records but don’t try and photograph them – a blurry picture is all you’ll get!
