Gary Lee Douglas - MC/Producer General Lee started his musical career at the age of eight in Kingston, Jamaica , by DJing acapella style over jukebox records.
His grandfather rented jukeboxes to bars, and Lee would travel with his grandfather and entertain customers by singing over dub versions.
By the age of 14, he had his first live experience with Sir Barry's Sound System in Clarendon, Ja. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Kingston, where he was influenced by reggae legends Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Big Youth, Gregory Isaacs, Rankin Joe and many others.
His first recording, Slam Bam, came in 1979 on Jamaica Sound under the moniker of Ranking Tony, which he later changed to General Lee in 1980.
Lee being part of his name, and the title General given to him by good friend and co-performer Al Campbell.
For the next few years, he operated and MC'd for Sir Barry's Sound Systems and others in Jamaica and the UK.
He started his own label High Power Music in 1980, recording a tribute to General Echo called 'Echo Dead' , under the supervision of friends and mentors Ranking Joe of King Stereograph Sound/Ray Symbolic.
This transition marked General Lee's entry into the world of music production with many top Jamaican musicians & the world renown 'TAXI Gang' - Sly & Robbie OD.
Lee has produced and recorded many bright stars of the roots and dancehall scene since his entry into music production and the birth of his label, including Dennis Brown, Gregory Issacs, Frankie Paul, Al Campbell, Michael Rose, Glen Washington,Cherine anderson,JC Lodge,Lukie D, Tony Curtis, Beenie Man, Elephant Man & Chakademus & Pliers.General lee is now currently working on vol 2 of his hit album lovers bash soon to be released.As a bonafide reggae producer General Lee has a string of HITS within his stable.General Lee
