Dan Schaefer

St. Louis native Dan Schaefer was voluntarily transplanted to Nashville in the mid-‘90s, and a hook-heavy pop writing style was treated to an infusion of folk, country and Americana influences. His songs have been cut by independent artists including Mark Hat, Cindy Standage and Kathy Hussey. While writing for other artists was always the plan, Dan became active in the Nashville music community and eventually succumbed to requests to also work as an artist. He can often be found playing tunes at random watering holes in Nashville, St. Louis, and (when stars align) the Chianti region of Italy. He’s hit the circuit as a finalist at festivals including the Gum Tree Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi, and the Riverbluff Acoustic Music Festival in Ashland City, Tennessee. The songwriter/singer’s imaginary autobiography Three Cuts and a Day Job is still a work in progress. 2007 brings the release of Dan Schaefer’s concept album So Romantic. Inspired by all-consuming romance and the three-and-a-half-minute pop hits of the late seventies, the new record celebrates the human heart’s journey from readiness (“Something to Prove”) to hopeful anticipation (“Mr. Right,” “This Time,”) to the fall (“So Romantic,” “Sugar,” “Sogni d’Oro”) and all of the wonderful emotions and experiences that follow (“You Move Me,” “Mission to Please”). The self-produced project was recorded at Dan’s home studio, with writing, vocals, guitars, piano, programming, and even album cover photography handled by the artist himself. The dance-influenced side project Separate Vacations is also available, and a collection of demos and acoustic takes is planned for later in ’07.
