We're an instro surf/garage band currently located in Portland, OR.
The band started in Rochester, NY in 1995. From 1996 to 2000 we were based in Albany, NY. We've been in Portland since 2000.We've released eleven CDs and one 4-song EP along with contributions to several compilations. Our first three CDs were on the Gee-Dee Music label (Hamburg, Germany) A live CD along with our EP was released by Surf Waves (Belgium) and Om Om Music (Italy) released one CD. We've also appeared on several Om Om compilation CDs. We've released five CDs in the U.S. on our own label, Acme Brothers Records. Please see our band web site for reviews. Click here to jump to our press sheet. We mix original material with covers and we often stray from the surf genre.
For example, one of our recordings is "There She Goes Again: S&ST Play the VU", where we cover eleven Velvet Underground tunes.
Our most popular CD is "The Originals" which is , you guessed it, all original material. We've made four trips to Europe and two trips to California. Two of our tunes were used by Nissan in Italy and we've played at Portland Trailblazers NBA games twice. Our tunes are also used on Lance Lambert's Vintage Vehicles cable show. A few of our tunes can be heard on MTV's The Real World Sydney (2007).Our tenth CD, "Untitled 10" features six new originals, two new covers, a VU cover and remixes of two of the original tunes. I'm playing guitar and bass on this one, Avory and I share drumming duties and Marky is playing the Gem organ. Just a bunch of girls born during the Eisenhower administration. Prince Strickland (Elwood) produced the remixes for us at his studio, Portland Underground Recording. Some of you might know Elwood from his CD, "The Parlance of Our Time", released by Palm Pictures. It is indeed a brave new world.
Avory and I recently recorded a sixteen song CD, "She's A Woman - S&ST
Play the Beatles". This was initially a side project done mostly just for the fun of it but we've decided to release it. CD Baby has it now. We had a really good time working on the Beatles
material so we've decided to keep the project going and record more tunes now and then. We have a MySpace page for this project where we'll post the songs, changing them up every so often. Just click on the Dear Prudence link. We hope you enjoy 'em.Here's a new video of Susan (Sans-A-SurfTones) playing the Beatles' "Like Dreamers Do."Here is "Tethys" from "Untitled 10." An old school skateboard fantasy..."Two AM" from our CD, "Untitled 10." A nocturnal walk...Here's another Beatles tune, "I'll Be On My Way." There's a big surprise on this one...Here's a video of a show we played in Nuremburg, Germany on our 2001 European tour. Susan: guitar. Brian Goodman: drums. Kim13: Vox organ. Dave Anderson: bass.
