Bears On The Run

About Me

BEARS ON THE RUN
Over the last few years, outlets like Bear Radio Network, Bearapalooza and WoobieBearMusic, along with a host of supportive bear runs, bars and - most recently - podcasts, have given Bear musicians, songwriters and performers a place to share their talents. This Spring, five performers will head out in a van for the second leg of the successful tour. The previous tour included Dallas, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Nashville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Chicago, St. Louis, Wichita, and Tulsa.
The tour in April will include Buffalo, Toronto, Boston, Provincetown, Albany, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore Washington D.C., and Pittsburgh.
The tour is called BEARS ON THE RUN and showcases the talents of Kendall (a songwriter/performance artist from Buffalo N.Y.), Matthew Temple (a folk singer/songwriter from Nashville, T.N.), Elijah Black (a rock singer/songwriter from Akron, OH), Bobaloo (a comedian from L.A.), and Shannon Grady (a singer/songwriter from Minneapolis, M.N.).
The tour's founder Shannon Grady (a singer and co-host of the popular podcast bTALK) hopes that the tour will grow and open up doors for other Bear artists and find new audiences for their work.

Band Members: Elijah Black www.elijahblack.com

Elijah Black... brings a sense of melody to the table that is tasteful and demanding. “Power, range, control and diction; It’s all there.” Elijah’s brilliant solo attempt, “Naked ‘Gainst the Blue Sky” released April 2005, is the strongest to date of any release.
Elijah Black has done opening stints for Motley Crue, Kings X, Styx, Neil Young, Cinderella, Deep Purple, Dream Theatre, Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult, Ratt, Jackyl and others. Elijah has played bear events in Toronto, Nashville, Buffalo, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Erie, Salt Lake City, Akron, Cleveland and more. Elijah is currently putting the finishing touches on his followup CD.

Bobaloo www.bobaloorox.com

Bobaloo has been lighting up the national gay comedy scene for the past 6 years. He’s performed at “Outlaugh!” (The first multi-day GLBT comedy festival in the U.S.), in Margaret Cho’s “The Sensuous Woman” and just completed his first full length stand up comedy DVD & CD titled “Full Release”. Bobaloo continues to play standup dates across the country, including bear and pride events designed to raise money for various HIV/AIDS and GLBT-related charities..

Shannon Grady www.zinn13.com

After years of playing in bands in clubs across the midwest, Shannon Grady decided to go solo and release his first full length CD called “10 Years” in July 2006. He set out to promote his CD by appearing in 2 Bearapalooza performances. The first was in Nashville in July 2006 and then Florida in November 2006. Shannon has also appeared as a featured artist on 3 podcasts (Bearpodcast, Homopod, FFR podcast) and as an up-and-coming performer on a local radio station in Duluth MN (North Shore Radio WTIP http://www.wtip.org) Shannon is also the founder and co-host of bTALK, the 1 rated bear podcast of 2006. Kendall www.kendallshead.com

Over the past few years Kendall has performed in over 60 bear and gay related events, appeared in international magazines including 100%BEEF, Genre, OUT magazine, released a retrospective on Woobie Bear Music, has had a number-one song on Sirius OUT Q radio, and last year won best short at the prestigious Rochester Gay and Lesbian Film festival for his music video “Hip Hop Dykes”. Kendall is currently working on a DVD which is a compilation of his work to be released in the spring 2007, and a new music CD in the fall.

Matthew Temple www.eyesofapoet.com

Matthew moved to Nashville, TN in 2000 but he grew up in the Pacific Northwest. He started taking guitar lessons when he was 7 and joined the Portland Opera Company boy’s choir at 12. He began writing folk music in college in the mid 60’s. He learned Jazz and a great deal about performing live when he sang with The Duke Ellington Band in the early 70s. He formed a band of his own that played the Benson Hotel in Portland, OR, The Sands Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, The Olympic & Washington Plaza Hotels and Rosario Resort in Washington, to name a few. In 1980 Matthew was hit by a drunk driver and lost the strength and control of his left hand. Although he continued to write songs, it took years of work before he could play again. “The Journey” is Matthew’s first CD. It took 10 years to the day to complete it and it is receiving excellent reviews.
