"A voice that lingers in the mind's ear, when the enchanted listening is done."
Jimmy McCarthy.Michelle Lally is a powerful new singer who has just emerged from Galway. Her renditions of contemporary easy listing Irish music are impossible to resist with the gentle charm of her immediately identifiable pure tone. Like many of Ireland's great female vocalists of recent times including, Mary Black, Dolores Keane, Maura O'Connell, etc. Michelle's undoubted talent has been brought to the fore by the legendary Frankie Gavin of De Dannan. Michelle is currently the lead vocalist with Frankie's new group 'Hibernian Rhapsody' who recently performed with The Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in Liverpool."Michelle's voice is truly beautiful and beautifully true."
Mick Hanly.
Michelle grew up in Ballinasloe Co.Galway and has been singing for as long as she can remember. At the age of 18 she was given the opportunity to travel to Oslo and work as an au pair. She then travelled to London, and a few years later, on to the U.S. Homesickness forced Michelle to move back to Ireland and that's when fate stepped in. Her passion for music was, what kept her going when she lived abroad and her love of singing brought her to many music sessions when she finally moved home.
It was at one of these sessions that she met Craig McEvoy. A singer/songwriter from Kent in England. They started a duet together and played many venues around Galway. At an Arty mcGlynn concert during the Galway Arts Festival 2003, she had the good fortune to meet Frankie Gavin. He persuaded Michelle to consider recording an album. Together with Eugene Kelly, they collected some old songs as well as new songs from some of Ireland's premier songwriters. The process was very theraputic for Michelle as she felt some connection to each of the songs she had chosen. The result can be heard on her debut album " If This be Love".
Michelle is the vocalist with Frankie's new band "Hibernian Rhapsody". The band has received rave reviews since it's inception and has played to over 80,000 people in 2007 alone. They had the honour of being the opening support act to The Rolling Stones in Slane. An experience Michelle describes as "Surreal."
Hibernian Rhapsody keep going from strength to strength." I'm enjoying every second that i'm on stage with the band. I feel very privileged to be working alongside such amazing musicians and looking forward to the rest of the journey with them".
