SANTIAGO & BUSHIDO (Chicago)

With their blend of big basslines and vocals, Santiago & Bushido are a filthy addition the Potty Mouth Music roster. Since teaming up as a production duo in 2001, Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido have elevated the art of electronic jack to encompass many influences, from the hard hitting to the deep and soulful.

At the core of Santiago & Bushido’s sound lays the forward thinking, funk-tech that has given them critical moxie in Chicago and beyond. As products of the mid ’90s rave scene, the DJ/producers grew up immersed in a community that they would soon become their professional careers. Bushido picked up djing at an early age and got deep into the art of production. Experimenting with hip hop at the start, he slowly ebbed into house production, thanks in part to his work at Chicago Recording Company. Sharing the same recording space with the likes of R.Kelly and Smashing Pumpkins, Bushido honed his engineering and production prowess until opportunity knocked.

While Bushido was mastering his craft, Santiago was working his way up the Chicago’s nightlife hierarchy. Within one year of playing live gigs, he secured a Friday night residency at Zentra Nightclub. The renowned “Jack Fridays” have continued to attract underground house crowds for more than six years, with crowds still going off weekly. Santiago’s presence in the Chicago house community reaches even further with his involvement in the House Arrest promotion group, which continues to host some of the scene’s most well attended parties.

As producers, Santiago & Bushido draw influences from their straight house background and apply harder and heavier elements to the sound. “We get really deep into the tracks we’re producing, flip them and cut them in so many different ways, all to get the heaviest groove possible,” Bushido says. Since collaborating, they have dropped numerous EP’s and remixes on some of House Music’s most well respected label including Robsoul, Control Recordings and Black Cherry, to name a few. The duo’s smash release “What Your Name?” on Robsoul continues to enjoy heavy rotation on the global house scene.

In addition to their Potty Mouth debut, the duo recently finished work on Colette’s new album “Push”, slated for August release on OM Records. They wrote and produced the album’s second slotted single, “If,” which they also remixed for a separate release. Already generating a buzz in the house community, “If” also features its own music video which will align with the release.

Santiago & Bushido’s recent inclusion in the Potty Mouth family aligns with the duo’s production and performance philosophies. “One thing about us is we’re not afraid to do a deep track or a totally hardcore track…as long as it works on the dance floor and is pushing the sound forward, it works for us.” Given the tech-funk inflection of their forthcoming release, the nastier the duo delves, the better they beat.

DJ FAME (New York, NY)

DJ Fame’s electro and tech house influences find an easy fit among the artists on Potty Mouth Music. As a DJ, Fame’s intense cuts, crazy loops and live turntablism have reinvented movement on the dance floor. As a producer, Fame has earned his way onto the genre’s premiere labels, including the UK-based Dubsided. Staking claim as the only American producer on the roster, Fame’s title track of the EP “Name It X” has made it to the crates of Richie Hawtin, Jess Rose, Jimpster and Switch, among others. In addition to his success in and out of the studio, Fame has held down several New York residencies including his flagship residency at Sullivan Room, which began in 2003. During his tenure, he released his first compilation for the club, “Sullivan Room Volume 1.”

Fame has been making the masses wiggle and bounce for more than 12 years. His seemingly electric energy on the decks matches the tone of his original tracks. Electro, jacking, techy, funky—nothing is off limits for Fame, who has taken his sound to across Europe, the UK, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and even as far as Russia. Fame’s brash sound and on-the-fly loops have made him one of the most exciting DJs to hit the global tech house scene in the past decade.

Aside from his recent Potty Mouth releases, Fame has spent the past few years working on originals and remixes for NOSI Music, Inuendo and Dusk. In early 2006, he first collaborated with Gaby Dershin (one-half of Bedrock artist Astro&Glyde) on a project called, Bit Crushers. The production duo’s first few tracks earned them two slots on the Balance Record Pool June 2007 chart. “Love Takes So Long” and “Sick Thing to Do” each ranked, along with enjoying air time from DeepDish, John Digweed and Lee Cabrera.

The ongoing vibe at “The Review,” a regular event hosted by Fame, has become a seminal spot for the New York tech house scene since 2004. “I consider my tracks to have a jackin, electro bump to them … always with a taste of funkiness to keep the heads boppin. I write specifically with the dance floor in mind,” he says.

With the bass, hints of NYC techiness emerge, along with hip hop samples and a funky bounce that demands a little wiggle room.

MIGHTYFOOLS (The Netherlands)

Andy Samin and Jelle Keizer took ’90s rave influences and flipped them with jacked up beats, bleeps and basslines, bringing a resonate boom to the Potty Mouth Music roster. Using choppy tangles of sound, the duo known as Mightyfools embraces a forward house sound that keeps audiences guessing right up the next breakdown.

Sharing a common interest in crossover, musical genres, Mightyfools entered the underground electronic scene courtesy of a few mix tapes. Samin, who leaned toward acoustic sounds, quickly began working as a producer and DJing straight house music. Keizer, who opted toward happy hardcore, bought his first set of tables at 14 and started producing on the techno tip by age 15. As Keizer’s catalogue of techno tracks grew over the next few years, Samin began to take notice. Even after their first meeting, the two instantly connected, melding their influences of house and techno into one twisty sound that set floors off.

Since then, Mightyfools have been artistically inseparable, producing and performing across their native Netherlands and beyond. In addition to their affiliation with the Dutch EDM music collective, Legionaires, the duo has done remix work for the likes of Kelevra, Calvertron, Ryan Murgatroyd and more. Their forthcoming EP on Venga Digital includes a remix by Lee Mortimer.

“Potty Mouth brings the sound we make and play—the new house generation style, the future,” Keizer says of their newest label affiliation. “We add our own chopped and jacked up style to everything we get our hands on.”

With their tracks appearing on Crux Records, Tokyo Dawn and Electric Sushi, Mightyfools have also garnered the attention of Laidback Luke and fellow Potty Mouth Music labelmates, HiJack and Crookers. Their Kelis Milkshake remix continues generating dance floor buzz among fidget house artists.

As for their name? Keizer says it comes from their ability to work over crowds one party at a time. The mighty fools are Mighty on the decks and Fools for the music.

The EP, “Who Da Fool” includes a remix by Potty Mouth Music’s Electric Soulside. It is the first label release for Mightyfools.

ADAM BOZZETTO (Sydney)

Adam Bozzetto is Potty Mouth Music’s resident mad scientist, thanks to his brand of crossover beats that breach the boundaries of house music. The classically trained musician went on to study science at the university in his native Sydney, Australia, only to find that his double life as a music producer/DJ was far more experimental. Today, Bozzetto holds three residencies at Australian venues, including Flux at Lady Lux, Wham at World Bar and FunClub at Fringe Bar.

Bozzetto’s work as a fulltime music tutor in Sydney disciplined him from the start of his production career. While running a club night with fellow Australian producer Hook ‘n Sling, he delved into beat mastery, quickly embracing the new house sound. His skills have led to a remix opportunity that included a re-rub of “Helium” by BassKleph and Anthony Paul for Vacation Records.

As a DJ, Bozzetto has lent performance support to music colleagues Kissy Sell Out, Nextmen, Bugz in the Attic, Midnight Juggernauts and Scott Hendy, to name a few. A prominent fixture on Australia’s fashion scene, Bozzetto has worked parties for iconic style outlets such as Levi’s, Ralph Magazine, Bondi Blonde and Fashion TV. His mixes have also aired on Triple J Radio, where Bozzetto’s bouncy sound received two-hour airplay along with a live, Saturday night mix set.

Bozzetto says that while his music forward thinking, it retains its identifiable house character. His two-track EP, which includes the tracks “Disco” and “I Can’t Go,” is Bozzetto’s first release on Potty Mouth Music.

ANDY GEORGE (UK)

One of Potty Mouth Music’s recent signings is a rising star on the UK Club scene. DJ/producer Andy George takes influences from music that includes everything from ’90s garage to Indie-electro—the results are heart stopping party bangers!

Andy’s crunked-up, jump-up spin on house music is at the heart of his own night, Moda. The monthly, UK mash-up has grown from a 300 capacity club into 1,600 capacity raves that saw it crowned Mixmags Club of the Month. This will come as no surprise to Moda’s regulars, including luminaries as Annie Mac, Kissy Sellout, Crookers and Boy 8 Bit who have all graced the decks.

Andy hit a new career high when he was asked to record an Essential Mix live for BBC Radio 1 with Moda co-promoter Jaymo, neatly positioning him amongst the top echelons of DJs and producers.

Not content with limiting himself as a DJ, Andy and fellow producer Jak Z collaborated on several jumped-up tracks. Andy’s first original EP “Big Dipper” made the charts of Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse Records imprint and spawned a globally renowned remix by fellow Potty Mouth artist, Hijack. JFK from Mstrkrft liked it so much he did his own re-edit, along with massive support from the likes of Crookers, Kissy Sell Out, Detboi and Toddla T.

When he’s not producing, Andy is relentlessly working on remix projects, spawning a recent collaboration with Detboi on Craig Walsh’s On the Brink Label. Remixes for Lee Mortimer (Wearhouse/Dotbleep), Toddla T and Simon Lord of the Black Ghosts show that Andy is a man very much in demand. Not content with just doing original work, Andy and a mystery partner also churn out endless party bootlegs under the guise of Throttle & Vinnie. If the arduous studio and club-promotion schedule aren't enough, Andy plays out at respected venues around Europe and the world, including Space, Ibiza and The End in London.

Andy aims to put the party back into house, both embracing and defying the genre labeling of the fidget house sound. “I hate the label “Fidget House”, that genre name was created as a joke, and there’s so much more to house music right now” he says. “Hopefully I’m able to add something different to the scene and just aim to make fun jump-up, crunked-up music that makes people dance."

Andy has collaborated with fellow Potty Mouth Music and Moda artist, Scott Cooper for their latest EP, “The Cooper and George EP” (2008) – with growing support from the biggest names in the industry - expect this Potty Mouth EP to explode!

SCOTT COOPER (UK)

Scott Cooper blends jackin electronic house with eclectic influences of hip-house, ragga and dancehall. His diverse spin on the underground sound has made him a less predictable—but always rowdy—addition to the Potty Mouth Music roster.

Cooper channeled his classically trained guitar skills into electronic music, taking early influence from Sasha, Lee Burridge, Craig Richards and the breaks of DJ Hyper. London-based DJ Jon Carter further influenced his production with a fusion of ragga vocals and old-school samples with house music and broken beats. His diversity would become the cannon for a sound he would develop at Nottingham’s prestigious Confetti Studios.

In the past 10 years, Cooper has honed his skills on the decks and in the studio, collaborating with artists such as Jak Z, and Balie funk MC Edu-K. Cooper’s breakthrough “Hanging with Mr. Cooper EP” released in early 2008 on Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse Music showcased his signature mix of electro, dancehall and breaks. The artist takes these influences even further with his forthcoming “Natty Jack EP,” on Wearhouse, which includes remixes by Potty Mouth Music artists HiJack and Heavy Feet.

“I’d describe my style as all-embracing in the way that I like to get a lot of different sounds and make sense of them in both my productions and my DJ sets,” Cooper says. The self-proclaimed serial collaborator of late still finds time to work with other artists while also making time to tweak his own twisted sound.

On the DJing front, forthcoming gigs see Cooper, 27, touring Canada, Europe and The States, along with an annual outing to Ibiza. He has held a previous residency at Digital in Lincoln and is a current resident of the monthly Moda event which Potty mouth's Andy George runs along with fellow Lincoln based DJs Jaymo and Ingo Staar.

Cooper has collaborated with George for their latest EP, “The Cooper and George EP” due for release in July 2008.

KLAUS HILL (Australia)

Klaus Hill’s brand of tough beats makes a charged debut on the Potty Mouth Music roster. For more than 10 years, the DJ/producer has split time between his native London, England and current residence of Sydney, Australia, performing for big room and festival crowds. Influenced early on by house, techno and breaks, Hill has brought his ball-and-wall tearing sound to two side projects, including 2Sinners and the Heavyweight. In 2008, he expanded his musical reach when he debuted his wobbly house chart buster, “Boombaclart,” featured on the Ministry of Sound 2008 compilation. Hill’s sound has evolved as a premiere bench mark for the fidget house sound, drawing influence from a cross section of EDM genres.

Since launching his career in the late ’90s, Hill has held residencies at London’s The End for four years, along with HOME in Sydney, Australia and HALO in Hobart, Australia. He dug his musical feet in early with several breakbeat releases before taking on remix projects for DJ Sneak, Felix Da Housecat, UNKLE, The Beastie Boys and Jakatta, to name a few. Hill’s wide scope of sound gave him a hard-hitting versatility, attracting attention from a range of artists including Sasha, John Digweed, Jesse Rose, Plump DJs and Fat Boy Slim.

Hill’s rise in fidget house began in 2007 with the release of his Undefeated EP. The track “Bang that Thing!” was signed to appear on the Maximum Bass 4 compilation soon after its release, while the ragga vocal of Spikey Tee put its stamp on his chart topping “Boombaclart.” The single picked up support from international DJ heavyweights such as Switch, Trevor Loveys and AJAX, among others.

Aside from his production work, Hill is an in-demand sound engineer working with some of Australia’s leading dance acts. Hill’s recent projects include a Bomb Squad remix project for fellow Potty Mouth Music label-mates, HeavyFeet, and a collaborative track with Dylan Rhymes for his forthcoming album on Lot49.

Hill’s future projects also includes another collaboration with vocalist Spikey Tee on the track “Slipstream” for Hussle Recordings and the forthcoming Potty Mouth remix of “Piano Man,” by Potty Mouth artists Scott Cooper and Andy George.

The DJ/producer credits his success—and affinity—for the fidget house genre to Potty Mouth Music. “Although falling through the stage while DJing the first Exit Festival in Serbia was equally memorable,” he says, almost laughing. Since his move to Sydney’s EDM scene in 2003, Hill has crafted three mixes for Ministry of Sound Australia, selling more than 150,000 copies and placing him at the top of the ARIA charts.

ELECTRIC SOULSIDE (Belgium)

Breakbeats may have profoundly influenced the Belgium-bred battery of Electric Soulside, but it’s their electro spin on the sound that landed them to Potty Mouth Music roster. Debuting on London-based label Ruff Dog Recordings in 2006, brothers Patrick and Steve Hoody have since brought their brand of glitch and fidget house to labels across Europe, Canada and now, into The States.

Driven by underground dance culture of early ’90s, Steve hooked into music with his first set of turntables in 1994; Patrick bought a rhythm box and an analogue synthesizer and explored. By mid-decade, the two had formed a creative partnership that pitted both brothers behind the synthesizer. Their first project, Mantra and Galax-Sea, was a live, synth-driven show that showcased their abilities to musically improvise alongside renowned Belgium musicians. Electronic and heady in nature, the sonic structure of their sets still put house at the forefront, taking influences from artists such as DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson.

By 2001, the duo’s signed on to London’s Blue Black Records, which were home to breaks artists including Meat Katie and Elite Force. Patrick and Steve absorbed the outside influences into their own sound, recording under the names Hoody & Hoody and Ultravision before settling into Electric Soulside in early 2006. Having produced under various music influences, the two brothers knew their eclectic style of electronica was a rare breed in their native Belgium. London’s Ruff Dog Recordings gave the duo the nod shortly after, signing the track “Shining,” an electro-breakbeat cut found in the crates of The Crystal Method and Aquasky alike.

Since 2006, Electric Soulside has appeared on numerous European labels, including European Breakbots (Paris), Flatout (Stockholm) and V.I.M (Greece). Their early 2008 release on Ruff Dog, “Second Life,” became a No. 1 electro-breaks release on Chemical Records (vinyl) and No. 2 on Djdownload.com breaks Top 100 (mp3) in the UK.

Electric Soulside melds breaks, glitch, electro and house into their production, creating sounds that twist and turn whether they are loosely adhering to the structured sounds of house or keeping their own beat to UK breakbeat.

HEAVYFEET (UK)

HeavyFeet’s wobbly beats bring their own dirty vibe to the Potty Mouth Music roster. Best-known for crafting jerky, shuffled beats, HeavyFeet producers Mike Burgess and James Medina have pooled their collective talents to become two of the Manchester underground scene’s fastest rising stars at 23 years old.

Mike’s background as a classically trained musician, promoter and engineer found the DJ and production talent of James, who currently holds a residency at Manchester’s Tangled, the city’s longest running club night since 1993. When the two combined their production talents, their taste for the UK heavy house sound, pioneered by the likes of Switch, was already sweeping the underground electronic scene worldwide. “There’s massive attention to detail in our production, especially with regards to the use of vocal cuts and the process of sampling and completely transforming sounds,” says Mike. “The vocal cuts and shuffle on the beats is something we’re always asked about,” adds James.

HeavyFeet’s bass-heavy sound blends U.S. and UK house with breaks, hip hop and garage. The result is a shuffled arrangement of distorted vocals, old-skool rave noises, new-school Chicago jack and plenty of wobbly undertones. When DJing, James has previously controlled the decks the solo, but there is now increased support from Mike, whilst in the studio, producing is a 50-50 effort. The duo is currently finishing new remixes for Fat! Records and U&A Recordings, which both attracted attention from Speaker Junk and Micky Slim’s Bomb Squad imprint. HeavyFeet has also lent recent supporting sets to Trevor Loveys and Micky Slim, with dates alongside Switch, MSTRKRFT and Boy 8-Bit forthcoming in the UK.

Aside from their detailed production work, HeavyFeet is continuing to collaborate with vocalists on several original projects. Chris Madin (Stonebridge), David Lewis (Streetz Recordings), Riz MC (BBC Electric Proms Winner) and Goldie’s tour MC, Switch MC are just a few names crooning their way into the mix of HeavyFeet’s distinct wobbly sound.

Mike and James are currently expanding their DJ performance to include the both of them in a paired performance, incorporating laptop computer, MIDI controllers and FX units into the mix, with the now-standard twin CDJ set-up. HeavyFeet also looks to incorporate MCs and turntablists into a live DJ performance that balances out their fidget bass lines. Their future goals, at Potty Mouth Music and beyond, include the creation of a live show with vocalists and musicians, similar to the vein of Audio Bullys and Basement Jaxx.

The HiJack duo is made up of Jon Chant and Daniel Carro. THE BULGARIAN (London, UK)

The Bulgarian is the business of dropping big beats, both on and off the Potty Mouth Music roster. With a production career that spans more than 10 years, his first release as The Bulgarian in December 2006 quickly became a best seller for the Second Session label on djdownload.com. Since then, he’s taken his bass-heavy, fidget house sound to some of the most respected artists in the business.

The Bulgarian’s road to success began 10 years ago in Cape Town, South Africa. Here, he discovered his passion for making music in his computer. In 2003, he volunteered to help out at the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Cape Town, where he immersed himself in varied genres of electronic music. With his new exposure, The Bulgarian ditched his dnb sound to open up a music studio. After two-and-a-half years of moderate success and a European holiday packed with inspiration, the aspiring producer decided it was time to shake things up by focusing on his productions—and thus was born "The Bulgarian".

The success of his Second Session release as The Bulgarian, led him to him signing an EP onto London’s On the Brink Recordings. Additionally, the glitch-heavy remix of the original Troydon track “I Wanna Tell Ya” continues to haunt club audiences with its hollow vocals backed by his relentless reworked bass.

The Bulgarian’s artistic inspiration carries over into production work as Mr.Elastik, a more minimal-inspired sound with a techno make-up. He also collaborates with his former studio partner as Tone Deaf Junkies, who released their debut album last year. Its eclectic electronic style ranges from glitch to electrostep dnb, along with a new self-dubbed sound The Bulgarian calls “Kwaitech.” “It’s a tech derivative of South Africa’s native Kwaito sound,” he says.

In addition to his success in the studio, The Bulgarian has held numerous club residencies, including Voltage in Cape Town and Homegrown at Mercury Live. In May 2007, he was featured on Andy Mac’s prestigious Cream Radio show, where he joined the mixing ranks of some of the world’s most acclaimed DJs and producers. His self-recorded “Slutty Fringe Selection” mix also enjoyed a 7,000 downloads in its first two weeks as an internet blog release.

The Bulgarian finds a place on the Potty Mouth Roster with help from his unconventional thump-and-bump sound. Using elements of glitch, sleaze and tech, The Bulgarian deconstructs conventional house and remasters the beats with what he calls “mad lines.”

“I bring a unique kind of mental craziness to the sound with lots of big bass and hungry energy,” he says.

It’s fidget house that buzzes as loudly as the peak-hour dance floor.

Click on the picture for more info on the Crookers!
THE CROOKERS (Milan, Italy)

Drawing from influences of house, hip hop and beyond, Crookers blend their beats with the kind of fidget house finesse that gives Potty Mouth Music its soiled swagger. Since 2003, DJs Phra and Bot have been drawing upon their collective musical backgrounds to create tracks that twist, startle and surprise with synthetic pop.

Before their collaboration as Crookers, Bot and Phra pursued their music interests on a separate tip. Bot took up the piano and guitar at an early age, later moving onto synths, turntables and sequencers. Phra had already started DJing by age 11, when he was introduced to the Italian hip hop scene. Soon, he morphed into an MC and became fully immersed in a culture that would shape his future production career.

“Both of us started getting more involved in music when we used to listen to hip hop,” Phra says. When the two artists met, both were trying to branch out of their genre success and explore dance music. The experiment worked. “It felt natural to team up, seeing that we had the same musical tastes … which isn’t that easy here in Milan,” he says.

Crookers have sleazed out dance floors with a catalogue of original tracks, but it’s their work as remixers that have made them one of the most after batteries in the business. Currently, the duo is reworking tracks for the likes of Arman Van Helden, Bonde do Role, Brodinski, Magik Johnson and Bumblebeez. Listen for their forth coming, debut album to feature other fidget house favorites, including Edu K, Steed Lord, Joyce Muniz and Miss Odd Kidd and others.

When Crookers are not crafting their dirty (crooked) beats in the studio, they are busy holding down their residency with MTV (Italy). “House and hip hop are our main influences, but we try to put all the things we like in our productions.
