Blood Sweat Drum n Bass Big Band

Blood Sweat Drum..n..Bass Big Band is an experimental bigband allways working with curiosity exspanding the field of bigband music today. During 2008 BSDnB has been working steadily with trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg DK, multiinstumentalist Jørgen Munkeby NO and electronica musician Sofus Forsberg DK allways with focus on the two singers Gunhild Overegseth NO and Turid Guldin DK.Originally ”Blood, Sweat Drum’n Bass” is the title of a suite consisting of the first six pieces released on the CD “Blood Sweat Drum’n Bass Big Band” Olufsen Records 2004. The suite was written by Jens Chr. ”Chappe” Jensen for extended Big Band and had its first performance in Aarhus Festival Week 2001. The suite is based on original Drum’n bass beats –– and the rhythm section is the focus of this big band which consist of 3 singers, 14 wind players, 2 guitars, 2 double basses, 2 keyboards and as many as 3 drummers. Blood Sweat Drum’n Bass Big Band was, after its first performance in 2001, resurrected at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus’s 75th anniversary in 2002 and again at Aarhus International Jazz Festival also in 2002. And now it has become an independent institution supported by the City of Aarhus. The three singers has given the orchestra an even more unique sound, and some of all the different colours can be enjoyed throughout the two CD..s . Especially the singers are of course featured on the studio recording “Vocalised”, but even thought this CD is a multitrack recording, all the arrangements and improvised parts has found their shape during concerts in Europe previous to the recording sessions. In the days of 9th to 12th of May 2005 BSDnB had a very special guest. The Norwegian trumpet player and singer Arve Henriksen did four concerts with the band, and there was a lot of fun but also serious musical development of the ways to interact in the band. Basically we prepared four pieces of Arve Henriksens music based on his fantastic CD “Chiaroscuro” released on Rune Gramofon 2004, but Arve also participated with improvisations and samples on material from BSDnB.. s original book of music. On the live CD you can hear ” Aphex Daphex Nova” witch is a tribute to Electronica, “Valse for Arve” (originally Crazy Vales from our former CD) and “I Rislampens Uforklarlige Nye Skær “ witch means “In the inexplicable new glimmer of the rice-lamp”, where Arve joined our Chinese tomfoolery in this tune, that originally were written for Aarhus Festival week 2003 (The East in the West).During the summer 2007 BSDnB will be working with multiinstrumentalist Jørgen Munkeby from Norway (Shining) and in the fall with saxophonist Erwin Vann from Belgium.Jens Chr. ”Chappe” Jensen is an ass.
