The Scrabble - Biography
The Scrabble were born in Turin, NW Italy, on January 2007, with bassist James P. Zanzarelli finally joining Carlo “Charlie” Valli (guitar and vocals), Lorenzo “Larry” De Masi (piano, keyboards and vocals) and Carlo “Laccio” Bellavia (drums). The band immediately start working at brand new stuff, writing 4 songs that will be the tracks’ list of their debut gig, on May 27th the same year, at Cover Cafè, in Turin town centre. Thereafter the band get the chance to play in many different venues in their hometown, among the others Giancarlo, Puddhu Bar, Pier Club, Villa Capriglio. They meanwhile keep writing new songs, and just a few months later, the band win “Murazzi Underground”, an indie challenge reserved to emerging artists. In November, thanks to the 16 hours of professional studio sessions won at the contest, The Scrabble record at Officina Sonora in Turin their first Ep, including four tracks: Wakeful, Anyway, Distance gonna make you breathe, 18. The Ep is recorded in a very short time, and can’t fully represent the band’s music, but it well reassumes the two souls animating their music: sometimes blues-rock, sometimes blinking to british prog and pop tradition. During the month of December 2007, the band are chosen among a number of other acts and play “Music Village 2007”, a national music event collecting bands from all around Italy, and taking place in Montecampione, near Brescia. The band now keep playing live in an increasing number of venues in Turin and outside, and are working on brand new tracks that will be included in their first official Ep, due to be released within Autumn 2008.

The Scrabble nascono ufficialmente a Torino nel gennaio 2007, quando James Pietro Zanzarelli (basso) si unisce al gruppo completando la formazione composta da Carlo “Charlie” Valli (chitarra/voce), Lorenzo “Larry” De Masi (pianoforte/voce) e Carlo “Laccio” Bellavia (batteria). La band inizia subito a lavorare a pezzi originali componendo cinque brani con i quali esordisce il 27 maggio 2007 al Cover Cafè, locale nel centro di Torino. Successivamente la band ha l’opportunità di esibirsi in numerosi clubs della città, tra cui Giancarlo, Puddhu bar, Pier club, villa Capriglio. Nel frattempo il complesso continua a lavorare alla composizione di altri pezzi e nel settembre 2007 vince il concorso per band emergenti “Murazzi Underground”. Nel novembre dello stesso anno, grazie al premio garantito dalla vittoria del concorso (16 ore di registrazione presso lo studio Officina Sonora), i The Scrabble incidono il loro primo ep composto da quattro brani: Wakeful, Anyway, Distance gonna make you breath e 18. Il demo viene registrato in appena 3 giorni, ed è un lavoro che rappresenta solo parzialmente il sound del gruppo, ma che comunque riassume le due anime della band: l’una caratterizzata da un orientamento blues-rock e l’altra da influenze prog e pop di derivazione inglese. Nel dicembre 2007 i The Scrabble sono selezionati per partecipare alla manifestazione “Music Village 2007”, un ‘evento che riunisce gruppi provenienti da tutta la penisola nella località montana di Montecampione (Brescia). Attualmente la band è iscritta al concorso “Torino Sotterranea”, in cui ha superato il primo turno di eliminatorie, continua la serie di date live in Torino e fuori, e sta lavorando alla stesura dei pezzi che comporranno il primo Ep ufficiale, previsto per l’autunno 2008.
