About Me

The Greek Animal Welfare Fund (GAWF) is a charity based in London and Athens which works for the benefit of Greek animals.
Nearly 50 years after its conception, GAWF continues its vital and far-reaching work. We offer assistance and advice to over 100 animal welfare and conservation societies within Greece, we work towards better treatment for street cats and dogs and organise and finance neuter and spay programmes, we have had much success in campaigning to end cruel animal circuses in Greece and in educating the public through our humane education programme. In addition to all of this, we have an Equine Project which involves a specialist team working with Greek vets and animal owners in order to treat working donkeys, mules and horses in need of help.

GAWF believes that humane education is central to improving the quality of life for animals in Greece. It is now recognised world wide that teaching children about animal welfare issues, instills in them greater consideration, kindness and respect towards animals.

My Interests

Our aim is to help end the suffering of animals in Greece with the objective of 'raising funds to further humane behaviour towards animals on the mainland and islands of Greece.'

GAWF provides Greek animal protection societies with project funding, expert assistance, training and practical help, including assistance with neutering campaigns.

Over the past twenty years, GAWF has raised millions of pounds to fund animal welfare work in Greece.

GAWF is currently helping around 100 animal protection groups with expertise, equipment and financial help (click image).

We also actively support several wildlife groups with literature, equipment, training and expert visits (including wildlife veterinarian).

In this way, GAWF extends its work beyond that which we could achieve directly by ourselves and, most importantly, equips national societies on the mainland and in the islands to carry on and develop vital welfare work in their own country.

It is only possible to continue this work through the generosity of our supporters - GAWF receives no financial support from Greek or UK governments.

GAWF has achieved much for the animals of Greece, but there is so much more to be done and you can help.
