About Me

Rhombus of Doom were formed by bass player Lee Webster around 1998 in liverpool. By that time he had successfully sacked himself from a number of combos including Walkingseeds, Froth, Kung Fu and the LivingBrain so decided to put together a band from the people that would still talk to him. It turned out to be a loose collective that spawned in the first instance a number of krautrock-inspired instrumental dirges the first of which was entitled "Unlimited Intelligence" and was given away with Ptolemaic Terrascope. At that time, the band rehearsed in the legendary Vulcan Studios and while 19 members existed on paper only four ever turned up. The first line up then.... LW - bass gtr Bob Parker- Gtr Tony Mogan - Drums Alison Williams - keyboardsAn LP of stuff was recorded at Vulcan and released in 1998 on Magneto records. It featured Ian "budge" Jones on 2nd kit. Copies may still be available from Probe Records in Liverpool. Shortly after the LP was finished a silly argument at a RoD show escalated into WW3 and RoDmk1 was over.LW retreated to North Wales and learned to play guitar, use protools and build bridges. In 2000 he met again with his hero Ged Lynn, a man who plays the guitar so well he makes it look hard. Together they formed RoD mark 2 with Mark Degnan (bass) and Paul Deus (drums) and they happily sat in Vulcan playing some truly mental music relying heavily on chord replacement therapy and melodies that were distant from their tonal centres. All was good, the band recorded some sweet tunes and did some v nice gigs including some shows supporting the Coral. At one gig, the beautiful Bill R-J stood in for LW while he was networking at a conference in the US and single-handedly trebled the audience size.Predictably, it all went a bit wrong.... the last (and best) gig at Kif in 2004 featured the prophetic "Fuck youse i am going solo" and shortly afterwards the band imploded. Paul , Ged, Oz (sax guy) and Mark put together the Priviliged Few and LW retreated to Manchester to play guitar and build bridges.Fortunately, you cant keep a good thing down ....roll onto 2007 - LW has formed Napoleon Wrasse with Mark, Paul and Lucas from the Heyze.....I appreciate that this is not Wikipedia, but as HJS says "listen brain, you dont like me and I dont like you..." , feel free to contradict these memories.
