About Me

Mike King has been teaching soul/jazz/gospel vocals at Goldsmiths College, part of the University of London, for over nine years and is a guest lecturer at the University of East London and London Metropolitan University. He is regarded by many as one of London's top vocal coaches and also works as a musical director and session musician for choirs, groups and artists in the music and TV industry.Mike directs his own 100-strong South-East London soul and gospel choir and has created 'Sacred Voices', a youth choir from inner-city London that gives kids the opportunity to express themselves, be inspired and grow in confidence through music. Mike also organises and teaches intensive vocal performance workshops in London, luxury singing holidays in Barbados and UK singing retreats. These are fun, inspiring and exciting experiences focusing on technique, group harmony singing and individual performance, culminating in a gig at a music club. Mike teaches a variety of one-to-one and group vocal and music lessons specialising in contemporary music (soul/jazz/gospel/R&B/rock/pop). Vocal technique, performance and improvisation can be taught along with piano, music theory and songwriting. Since leaving his record company in 1999 Mike has continued to write, produce and perform as a solo artist and in collaboration with others. As an accomplished songwriter and session singer/keyboard player he has performed and recorded with a variety of different acts from pop/RnB artists to Gospel choirs to jazz trios, in venues across the UK, USA, Italy and the Caribbean.
