About Me

In 2000, Rob (a long time members of the Australian Power-pop legends, The Innocents) released a solo CD of commercial pop material, called "Small Town Boy". Despite the fact that the CD consisted entirely of 4-track home demos, it was seized upon by the underground pop community, and has received regular airplay on a number of independent radio stations or pop programmes in both the USA and Europe. "Small Town Boy" was also picked up by a number of internet distributors (eg, Not Lame Recordings, Jam Records, PopPlusOne & Kool Kat Music). It continues to sell around the globe.
In 2003, Rob (with the help of producer and friend, Michael Carpenter) finished a second solo album, "Better World Tomorrow", which was released by Wizzard in Vinyl in Japan and Big Radio Records in Australia. The album was very well received, attracting a good deal of airplay and a number of glowing reviews. In September, 2004 and July 2006, Rob also gave a promotional performances in Tokyo, to follow up on the album's success.
Rob has now completed a third solo album, "Trick of the Light", which was released late in 2008 by ZIP Records - http://www.ziprecords.com - in the US and Big Radio Records - http://www.bigradio.com.au - in Australia. The album has already received considerable airplay and some enthusiastic tributes - eg., have a look at the rave on the Not Lame site - http://www.notlame.com/ROB_SMITH_(The_Innocents)/Page_1/CDSM ITH19.html
Rob is currently working on a (long overdue) album with his very first band, The Affections, and has already begun work on a fourth pop record - a series of duets with fellow indie artists. There are other projects planned for 2009, including an album of Christian music with friend and well-known author/musician, John Dickson, and (as always) there is also more Christian Congregational music in the pipe-line.
For those living in and around Sydney, keep an eye out for Rob's performances with The Beatnix, usually appearing as Paul McCartney!
