Singer-songwriter Erin Muir began studying classical voice and piano in her hometown of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota (on the banks of the Mississippi River) at the age of 5, and began performing very soon thereafter. She went on to become a songleader at a church co-founded by her parents, and, after being discovered singing in the church choir, studied music with the Dean of the School of Music at a nearby University. At the same time, through the aid of her bohemian mother and educator father, and through her own natural curiosity, she began studying metaphysical astrology, comparative religion, music composition, art, and the works of Jung, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Rumi and Rilke. A unique childhood steeped in learning, mysticism and music, she attended Saint Olaf College School of Music for one semester before dropping out to pursue her own songwriting.
She began to perform with several rock bands, touring the Midwest, West Coast, and later Europe as an independent artist. She sang for both princes and paupers alike, enjoying each and every musical moment. After a few years of gypsy music making, she returned to Minneapolis, Minnesota and joined the bawdy burlesque troupe Le Cirque Rouge de Gus, becoming a favorite singer known as International Girl (so called because she sang songs from around the world in multiple languages.) She moved to Los Angeles in 2006 where she began to work with producer Bernie Larsen. She also began to study meditation and transformational work with Candace Silvers, who took her to India in 2007 and 2008.
While in Rishikesh, India, where the Beatles worked with the Maharishi, a life-changing experience in which she began singing while floating down the Ganges River on a raft led her to write a new song cycle based on the love and passion of human existence. Once back in Los Angeles, she brought the songs to Bernie Larsen, and together, they began to record a new album in October of 2008. Set for release in late summer 2009, this album features groovey singer songwriter pop with musical hooks and metaphysical lyricism. With a voice quite unlike any other, Muir has been called the musical love child of Annie Lennox and Antony and the Johnsons (with some Fiona Apple in the mix.)
