AJ has been playing the electric bassist since 1976. Although the majority of his career is playing in the blues genre, AJ has played a wide variety of genres which include: soul, funk, rock, jazz, fusion, progressive rock, chicano folk, latin. As well as numerous studio projects, AJ has performed live in an assorted array of venues, from night clubs, to festivals, and vaudeville theater during his thirty years as a professional musician.
One of AJ’s early band mates was San Francisco guitar-slinger Ron Thompson. AJ later joined Johnny Heartsman, “The Godfather Of West Coast Bluesâ€. During this time, Gary Silva, (drummer for Elvin Bishop) referred AJ to Charlie Musselwhite (widely regarded as the current master of blues harp) to play bass on Charlie’s world tour. Mr. Heartsman encouraged AJ to go out and “see the world, and get (touring on the road) out of your systemâ€. During that time Charlie released the Grammy nominated recording- Ace of Harps, which AJ played on .
After three years of world wide touring, AJ returned to the Bay Area and Northern California to rejoin Mr. Heartsman and alternative rocker Early Times. AJ explains, "I was having the best time of my life. I was learning from the maestro, Mr. Heartsman, and playing with the most fun band I ever played with, the Early Times Band.
