JUANBURGUESA

About Me

Born under a cusp sign, Jonathan Berger's been writing short attention span poetry for well over a week, and fronting the funk-rock spoken word vehicle JUANBURGUESA since right before the Towers fell. His - for wont of a better word - poetry evokes memories of poets who went on to front bands, like Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Henry Rollins, and Muhammad Ali. The band, founded by drummer Sanjay Kaul and Aashish Pathak (of Lunchin' and Pathak respectively) on drums, currently features the driving duo behind the Heller Theory (Andrew and Brian Heller) on guitar and bass respectively. They're good. But don't tell them that; they might get all uppity and ask for a raise. Playing in East Village locales (and one time in Philadelphia), JUANBURGUESA does things with a stage like you wouldn't believe - or didn't, before you saw the show. Go see the show.

Who knew it would come to this?

Apparently, I am precognitive. Art Buchwalk is dead. I didn't do it. I didn't even wish it on the guy, even though I stopped reading his columns three decades ago. I did think it, though. Just this Tu...
