About Me

Formed in December 2003 in Mo I Rana in the north of Norway, DECREPITUS started life as a three piece band, with AC on the guitar, Kanzer on bass and a drummer, and quickly developed into a four-piece with the addition of a second guitar player. Vocals were a bigger problem though, with the band deciding to remain instrumental for the time being, when they couldn’t find the right vocalist.Decrepitus was originally conceived as Heavy Metal band and this was the direction the band followed for the first 3 years. In 2004 the band parted way with their original drummer, and once a replacement had been found, started to write their own songs. The songs "Typhus", "Night Of The Walking Dead" and "Death And War" were written during this period, but sounded quite different to today’s version. In 2004 Andreas Nilsen expressed his interest in joining DECREPITUS and he was invited to come to rehearsals and jam with the band. After hearing him play the other members unanimously decided to invite him to join their ranks. For a while the band existed with 3 guitarists, but when the third drifted off, AC and Andreas found that they worked well together and decided to keep to that combination. In 2006, just as the band had decided to leave behind the Heavy Metal genre in favor of Death Metal, a move away from Mo I Rana forced Kanzer to leave DECREPITUS, and the band suspended most of their activities until 2007 when they were joined by Svartravn S on bass and vocals.AC had previously worked with Svartravn S in VRAGVOLD, and the arrival of the charismatic bass player brought new impetus and enthusiasm to DECREPITUS. The band started to modify their old songs, as well as laying some to rest, with Svartravn writing several lyrics as well as writing "Where The Ravens Fly", while AC wrote "Break-The-Code" and "Bloodbath".Defying geographical differences, Kanzer decided to return to the band, freeing up Svartravn so that he could concentrate vocals. The new band line up proved to be very successful and made a lot of progress, and even the departure of their drummer at the end of 2007 didn’t slow them down at all, with VRAGVOLD drummer Askesorg joining the band virtually immediately, and bringing with him ideas that added the finishing touches to the material. The end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 saw the band enter AC..s studio to lay down the tracks for their debut album "Break-The-Code". The album was mixed in Oslo by M (Lunaris), and the artwork was produced by Balfori (Lunaris and System:Obscure). By the time the album was ready, Kanzer had moved back to Mo i Rana, making it much easier for the band to rehearse and play live. However, it was Svartravn’s turn to leave Mo i Rana and he was replaced by another VRAGVOLD member, vocalist Vantro. The band and Svartravn S have not completely broken their ties, and still work together. The long awaited album, "Break-The-Code", was finally released on the 1st of November 2008, and never being a band that likes to sit still for any length of time, new material is already being written, including the song "On The Edge Of Everything", which has already received a great response.Buy it!"Impressively nostalgic" - RanaBlad
