About Me

I am a singer/songwriter from Seattle, having relocated in November of 2006 from Flagstaff, Arizona.
Field recordings from a barren field of old oak flooring, bedroom for a barn. Suicide blues. The cows make it home, after many trials and tribulations, but the cowboy's habit is hard to break.
Craig
"Piercingly sad." Lierre Keith
"...Your music is like oil stains on concrete that was poured over what once was a crop of barley where now, just one lil' sprig of green drives it's way through the crack in the black spot." Universalia Jane
"great stuff craig, we browns are a rare breed..i can imagine listening to you stuff looking over an icy cold loch drinking petrol from an empty beans can." Craig Brown (not me, a different one!) http://www.myspace.com/twiceshybiteback
"But I have listened to it and I'm blown away. Johnny Cash, Nick Drake, Nick Cave spring to mind but most of all I hear you and it's great. I take it in small chunks. There seems to be a lot of pain and hurt there and until I get my meds increased I can only take so much at a time. It's too bad Johnny Cash died, your songs would have been perfect for him." Michael Baker
"It all started out when I got the demo from Craig Brown, my brother from another mother. I won't go into it but our history is woven together with yarn, disease love and respect. Craig Brown writes some of the hardest lyrics to ever hit the page. I'm not just blowing smoke up his ass either. The song writing comes from the self taught fuck you and fuck me, you're not supposed to do that category, and the lyrics knock your genitals into the dirt." Greg Dale, Sorrow Town Choir
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)

My Blog

the tough guy

New new song, written in the past couple hours. Fifth take is good enough for my (easily satisfied) sensibilities. It's an actual song, with lyrics & shit. For Mr. Greg Dale, he knows why. Happy sprin...

Blues for Kate

For Kate Rusby- a tuning she likes. Me, too.

FMN (For Marissa Nadler)

So I wrote this song well over a year ago after seeing Marissa play at the Sunset Tavern, and have never recorded a version I actually liked. I found this one today, and kind of liked it. Recorded in ...

the turning

Well, it seems I am unable to write (or unable to be happy with) any new songs with lyrics. So you get an instrumental. It's been awhile, and the sweet grey days deserve it. Blessings on you and yours...

Wow, it’s been a long time

Just sitting here with the guitar, playing, recording (poorly) and waking back up. Damn. That song I wrote for Marissa last year is ready in a week, I think. Soon, soon.

Aurora

I started thinking about this one a week ago, walking along the ship canal with the ever-amazing Steve Dye, in the snow. Riding home I wondered if the ghosts of the jumpers sometimes gather to reminis...

Snow on the water, followed by water on water.

Took an epic (thanks for corrupting my English, Mr. Fowler) jaunt to Olympia to see the Portland School of Rock band open for Derrick Jensen on Friday. Both were excellent. Derrick likes U.F.O., as do...
