THE GREEN began in 2001 as a 'ropey' covers band with expectations as far as playing locally every now and then for a good time with friends. Shortly into the journey Dave (vocals, rhythm guitar) began churning out some excellent acoustic ideas which captured the attention of the other band members who started to add to Dave's sound.
By 2002 the band had started to work their own material into their sets and were finding the tracks well received. This sparked thoughts towards capturing the new ideas on record and so Matt (drums) began trying to figure out Cubase etc. After a great deal of digital-fumbling the band were recording their own music in their studio.
The latter part of 2002 saw the 'release' of the bands first recordings on a four track EP simply identified as demo's! This thankfully went down well with the bands small local following and left them wanting more as Steve (bass) began muscling-in on the song writing. With Matt adding the basic rhythms required to hold the tracks, Rich (lead guitar, backing vocals) worked on finding sounds and melodies which worked with Dave's vocal style. The product of many months of exploring and frustration was the bands first self-produced self-titled Album THE GREEN in 2003.
The second album release from the green titled SCHIZOPHONICA. This was an idea based on the guys feelings that their music portrayed different moods within their genre. The band travelled to Los Angeles later that year in September. Oh, there was also a new four track EP recorded specifically for promotion in LA with producer Rob Holsman in the UK.
The band set off to the States to play the New York International Music Festival at which they won Best Overall Band and Best Overall Performance Award at the Whiskey a Go-Go on Sunset Strip. During the trip the band established their relationship with Jeff Gross and Matty Spindel (grammy award winner) of Red Road Music.
The Green returned to the UK and started writing their new album which would be produced and mixed by Jeff and Matty. Armed with 11 tracks, the band returned to LA in March 2005 and recorded what is now their new album Primary Colours' which was released in August 2005.
Its not all been hard work, the band have taken some time away from recording this year to accept Best International Band Award at the Orange County Music Awards in March!!! The Green have resumed playing again to great reception of the new album in their local area.
They are now pursuing a wider audience further a-field of their native east midlands area in the UK. Writing is in progress for the fourth album from The Green and the band will continue to do all this stuff themselves until a record exec realises that there's money to be made...
