Rhymes over beats is the basis of all music, and story telling is as old as humanity. Hip Hop, the latest form of this timeless tradition, exploded out of african-american communities in New York in the 1970's and spread around the globe - reawakening something ancient everywhere it touched down. The oldest rhyming poetry in the world was written in Gaelic by Irish scribes, and hip hop is nothing more or less then the latest manifestation of the art of rhyme. How could we not be a part of it?
Roots
It took a quick minute for us to adjust to the new sound, but once the ball got rolling it became unstoppable. It began with the high-energy irish-american House of Pain and continued with the fiercely rebellious irish-jamaican Marxman. The french/breton Manau took it a step further and added traditional instruments and melodies to the mix, creating the first true fusion of traditional celtic music and hip hop. Emcee Lynx and Beltaine's Fire took the new fusion sound and added their revolutionary flame to the mix, turning it into a vehicle for change, and the scottish-american marshal mathers pushed the boundaries of rhyme further then anyone previously thought possible. Meanwhile Scary Eire, Messiah J & the Expert and Captain Moonlight have been making waves in Ireland and the Scottish, Welsh, and Breton hip hop scenes are all primed to explode as well.
Purpose
This page is for all our modern bards, druids, storytellers, and so on to network and for fans to find new music. and of course, this is not just limited to rappers: dj's, mc's, graff writers, breakers, everyone. We wanna see folks incorporating traditional scottish/irish/welsh dance steps into their breaking routines, using celtic knotwork into their graff, sampling trad music and then scratching it to peices, anything you can imagine.
last but not least - Peace and respect to all cultures, this isn't about superiority or any bullshit like that. This is about letting the world know we're here and we're growing.
