About Me

Reviews of 'Angels Falling Down' the New CD by Gavin Stephens********** True Art******** author: Wim Oudijk******* After having enjoyed "Angels Falling Down" for a few weeks I can finally take the distance to write some words about it. THIS IS NOT A CD. Oh yes, it is cleverly disguised as one: CD box and silver platter... but as soon as it's in the player all similarities to mentioned object vanish: THIS IS A PAINTING or rather a full exhibition of Impressionist pictures painted by a master painter! Rich primary colors on one canvas, tender pearly yellows and greens on another. Beautiful landscapes and intimate views all done with a perfect perspective. This work of beauty, normally only to be seen in the Louvre, or Tate Gallery should be the most prized possession of any true art lover!Reviews of 'Angels Falling Down' the New CD by Gavin Stephens********** 'Angels Falling Down' Review by Jean-Emmanuel Dubois."You are feeling miserable at the choice in the record shops and you are left feeling depressed and gloomy, nothing interests you anymore. I think I have the remedy for you, a songwriter still little known, who is carving out a niche for himself on the Web with pocket Symphonies infused with a gentle melancholy. Gavin is certainly awash with diverse influences (Van Dyke Parkes/Randy Newman/Bacharach and Co.) but he possesses his own vocabulary, which proves that pop can re-invent itself. Gavin (English) is also continental: he invokes Michel Legrand and Jacques Tatti with a dash of Prince. If Valentino has an affluent 'Deauville' side to him, Stephens is more 'Trouville', with its charm of muted colours. Angels Falling Down, is a man who soars up on his dreams, far above the world of all its problems."*********Reviews of 'Angels Falling Down' the New CD by Gavin Stephens********** author: Mr Aa - Absolutely brilliant song cycle !It's utterly wilsonesque without sounding like mere pastiche as Wilson lovers too often do. Highly recommended ! *********Reviews of 'Angels Falling Down' the New CD by Gavin Stephens**********: - Heir Apparent? - author: Paul Howard - Angels Falling Down is a beautifully realized song-cycle that calls to mind the classic late 60's early 70's Beach Boys, with a dash of Prince at his most playful as well as the odd nod to Miles Davis. Sublime close harmonies weave through the whole piece like gold and silver threads. Gavin Stephens plays and sings everything himself, displaying dexterity and confidence throughout. To pick out the best tracks would do a great disservice to this breathtaking recording. Clocking in at just under 35 minutes, it should be listened to in its entirety, every time! Gorgeous art work from Dave Houssart completes this beautiful package. Any serious fan of Brian Wilson must hear this CD, and consider, perhaps, that the master may have a successor. -**********. *********Reviews of 'Angels Falling Down' the New CD by Gavin Stephens**********:Here Comes The Summer - author: Fred - A fabulous blend of everything I love. Wonderful arrangements and beautiful melodies. The harmonies are out of this world and the playing is incredible throughout. A perfect soundtrack for a perfect summer. Love it**********Gavin Stephens ..1st off a BIG thanks to Skip The Funktologist @ A Funk Above The Rest @ www.kuvo.org & Gi Dussault / Joe Kelley @ The Upper Room With Joe Kelley for their Radio Broadcast support and permission to use the clips from their shows here and @ www.oceanoftunes.com. Cheers Guys. www.oceanoftunes.com hosts a plethora of musical styles and Poetry sporned by Gavin Stephens/Harry Knight, Fred & Dave Houssart. The concept of Ocean Of Tunes is to celebrate the 9 albums that have been Produced by Gavin since 2005 and collate all the material that has been released in one sea worthy surfin' vessel. Since the birth of Ocean, Gavin has enjoyed consistent support of many radio stations, such as: www.kuvo.org courtesy of "The Funktologist" Skip Reeves on his "A Funk Above The Rest" radio show every Saturday night, being played between the likes of George Clinton, Larry Graham, James Brown, Bootsy Collins, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations etc...for his solo CD "Rock Chocolate". On the back of his interest, Skip Reeves is now also giving "Rock Chocolate" additional distribution through his own website www.afunkabovetherest.com. The 2nd main Station being The BBC. A Big Band Saturday night show hosted by John Hellings on www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/. John has played tracks from Gavin & Harry's "Swings & Roundabouts" CD under the band name "Roarin' Greedients" inbetween Hero's such as Miles Davis and Gil Evans. The 3rd Funky Station is the Prince endorsed "The Upper Room with Joe Kelley". The show was included on Prince's own website in 2004 and has been playing tracks from Gavin's Solo releases "Rock Chocolate" and "The Truth About Women". Thanks to Gi Dassault and Joe Kelley for their continued support at the station and Gi for her Prince stories and related Photo's! and most recently 'The Curve Ball' hosted by Mojo & Record collector magazine writer Chris Evans' who gave 'Angels Falling Down' its first airing on 22/04/2008 with the likes of Van Dyke Parkes!!!! playing the track 'Falling Down'. Cheers Chris. This new release for April 2008 is now at CDBABY/iTunes/Napster & beyond!). It's material recently recorded and archived tracks blended together as one 32min mini Suite, so expect something completely different from "Rock Chocolate" & "The Truth About Women". It has already been quoted as "The most comprehensive collection of tunes yet produced by Gavin"(from a non-paying source!) and described as 'The Wilson Brothers on Jacques Tati's bike dreaming of Legrand & Bacharach Melodies'-"We can't say fairer than that" says Chris Evans! Both Fred (Poet In Limbo) & Harry are working on their own projects which will be coming to "Ocean" as and when..... Cheers to all along the way that's filled the Ocean: Kay Jackson 4 the introduction /Colin Bell /Bill Cornell/Barry Strong/Alan 'Honk' Jones/Robin Whitbread/Jeff Carpenter/One to One/The Sullivans/The Tender Trap/The Soul Traders/Chris Knowles/Paul Childs/Tony Roche/Jem Wand/John Hellings/Skip Reeves/Gi Dussault & Joe Kelley/Chris Evans (From 'The Curve Ball' radio show/Jean-Emmanuel Dubois 4 the French Connection! /Steve Perry (Artwork for "Swings & Roundabouts" and "The Truth About Women")/Robert John Burley (Artwork For "Oriental Elements") Dave Monk (The reason "Rock Chocolate" was released!!!)/Dave Houssart (Artwork for "Angels Falling Down", 3 Brand New Tracks (one on the player-others available upon request!) and 30yrs of friendship and consistant inspiration) /Harry Knight & Fred (Poet In Limbo) and Tikarma for her great support.
