About Me
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I began my career on the New York stage after moving to the city at the age of seventeen. My film debut began with a little more than a single line in Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977), when I fretted about having forgotten my mantra. I then went on to appear in the remake Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) before a high-profile turn in the classic ensemble film The Big Chill (1983).I turned up in the quirky film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), which became a 1980s cult classic, then I went on to a breakthrough role in the David Cronenberg remake The Fly (1986), which also featured actress Geena Davis, who, as some may know, was my wife from 1987-1990 and co-star in two additional films: Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) and Julien Temple's Earth Girls Are Easy (1988). I certainly still do adore and respect her with all my heart.I then continued my film career into the 90s starring in such blockbuster hits as: Steven Spielberg's dinosaur adventure Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), as well as the alien invasion flick Independence Day (1996).Some of my recent roles have included Igby Goes Down (2002) and Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004). Also NBC's show Raines, in which I played a somewhat deranged detective who talks to the victims (who are of course figments of my imagination). I am currently working on the newest season of Law and Order: Criminal Intent and am very excited to be working with such a talented and exciting cast!Other than my professional film/television career, I also am a teacher at several locations. I like to teach two things particularly in this Sanford Meisner program: One is improvisation, and I like to teach what he used with more advanced students; and Edgar Lee Masters's Spoon River Anthology, a piece of material with a lot of speeches in it.On a more personal note, I enjoy playing blues on the piano, I enjoy eating octopus, and more importantly, I can wiggle my ears one at a time.
