About Me

Ok, I don’t know what to put here, and I find it almost impossible to write about my self. (must be a phobia about looking a twat or something.) But needs must. So I’ve cheated and got an old friend to do it. He seems to know more about me than I do anyway!!? Kevin (AKA Deeppunch) worked with me in my early days at Goosebury Studios and now is the man I cry to on the phone when my computer dies. He is definitely the best Mac man I know and set up this page and my web site for me. Thanks Kev. Obviously a man of considerable literary skills as well, I can’t thank him enough for his kind words below. Mark Angelo Lusardi starting as a trainee tape-op at Decca studios in 1972, and worked on a wide verity of different projects from classical recordings (Mozart piano concertos) , recordings of Greek tragedies for the Argo label, to comedy recordings for Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan not to forget a lot of work with pop and rock artists like Dana and Thin Lizzy. In 1975 he moved over to Goosebury studios in the West End of London and within his first year there became chief engineer. During his five years at Goosebury he worked with such luminaries as David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, Killing Joke, Public Image, Sham 69, Denise Bovel, Black Slate, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Matumbi, and Hot Chocolate to name but a few. Under his guidance the studio also achieved the unique and probably never to be repeated distinction of having UK national chart numbers 1 and 2, a USA national chart no 1 album and more reggae records in the Black Echoes top 20 than the whole of the rest of the world put together ……. all at the same time.In late1979 he built the first Mark Angelo Studios in Clerkenwell and then a bigger and better version in Acton (2000) . Whilst at the helm he also found time to continue to work with many of his existing artist and to also work with Queen Latifa Andy Weatherall, Rupert Hine, Caron Wheeler, Omar, Soul II Soul, Alex Patterson, Lee Perry, Killing Joke, Gang Of Four, U.K Subs, The Orb, Primal Scream, Echo & The Bunneymen, The Triffids (see commerative plack at the old studios location), Curiosity Killed The Cat, Flowered Up, East Village, Moonflowers, The Weathermen, Sunsonic, Jesus Jones, Funtopia, Earth Beat, St Etienne, Transvision Vamp, Deep Joy, Executive Slacks, Duran Duran, Howard Jones, OMD, New Model Army, Fortran 5, Sarah Washington, Jona Lewie, Debbie Malone, Sarah Brightman, Damage Manual, The Members, Venus Ray, Creation Rebel, Errol Henry, Adrian Sherwood, Trevor Walters, The Cool Notes, Gasper Lawal, Clint Eastwood & General Saint, Prince Far I, Nick Straker, Funkmasters, Jah Wobble, Frankie Paul, My Bloody Valentine, Raw, Peter Collins, Youth, John Leckie, Mike Pela, Colin Thurston, Bill Drummond, and Billy Bragg to name but a ……well quite a lot really.Throughout his career Mark has played a major roll in developing the sound of popular music in the modern era. Instrumental in creating the “wall of guitars” in early punk with the Sex Pistols, riff based synth pop with Howard Jones, the UK lovers rock sound with Denise Bovel, a whole Jonra of “dub echo” based dance music in the USA with the Funk Masters (Love Money), Ambient with the ORB and in the mid 90’s, with Nigel Brabury, he co invented a device called The Mutator that not only totally revolutionized the sound of dance music at that time, but was also the very basis of the sound of the bands like Daft Punk and albums like “Speed of Light” (Madona/ William Orbit) and Radio Heads “OK Computer”.From 1979 through to 2008 a great number, if not the majority, of the great and the good of the British music industry passed through the doors of Mark Angelo Studios but finally in 2008 the studios, sadly, closed its doors for the last time. Credit crunched out of existence.Undaunted, Mark has continued to produce (recently working with a band called “Narration”) and is running ,what is almost without doubt, and by a fair margin, the best on-line mixing sites on the planet “Mark Angelo on line”.Kevin D (AKA Deeppunch / Insight1)
