Hot rythms, driving grooves – Songs you will not easily forget are the trademarks of CHIMI CHURRI’s sound. The music creates an atmosphere of latin holidays and nights danced away in the beach bars of Rio and Havana or the gloomy, smokey clubs of Buenos Aires.
The different songs ranging from the hot opener “La Pena”, through “Victor Jara”, a tango piece that comes with mighty rock riffs, the smooth reggae “El Arriero”, the poppy balad “Quiero Quedar” to the fast rock ska piece “Tierra Quemada” offer a modern, unconventional yet catchy cross cut of Latin American music, which singer Gustavo backs up effectively with his Spanish lyrics. Definitely no stereotype but completely individualized songs whose rich repertoire reaches from rock through pop, funk and salsa to ska and reggae and yet forms a moody whole and makes CHIMI CHURRI’s debut longplayer, the soon to be released “QUIERO QUEDAR”, an interesting and diversified listening experience.
CHIMI CHURRI draws inspiration from influences such as Santana, Sgt. Garcia, Manu Chao and other famed genre artists to create an individual composition that is unmatched throughout the musical landscape. The lyrics of CHIMI CHURRI tell stories of the trivial as well as the moving. Life experince meets social criticism proclaimed through the sentimental and soft but at the same time protesting and rocklike voice of frontman Gustavo.

CHIMI CHURRI was founded in 2006. Gustavo who had gained musical experience as lead singer for the rock band STONE COLD CRAZY, returns to his Latin American roots with CHIMI CHURRI. He teamed up with Filip Wetzstein (Guitar), Dennis Klauser (Bass) and Can Batman (drums) who had been previously working on the fundaments of what should later become the songs presented in the first album.
After the core lineup was established there was a one year period during which the members intensively studied Latin American music and drummer Julian Alt who also plays drums for LOS SKALAMEROS was fetched aboard. Thanks to his grooves songs like „La Pena“, „El Arriero“ or „Quiero Quedar“ took on a genuine latin sound.
However it was still important for the band members to integrate the many different styles and sounds which they like listening to and which they were influenced by in their musical career into the music thus enriching it with Rock, Ska and Reggae elements. It was important for everyone to conceive the songs individually and adapt them to the Spanish lyrics.
A year later (2007) the lineup was completed with Christoph Trautwein who had been a long time bandmate of Gustavo with STONE COLD CRAZY. Having just returned from a one year stay in Brazil he was ready to spice up the music of CHIMI CHURRI with his synthie sounds, Cuban piano and Hammond licks.
That same year their first opus “Quiero Quedar” was recorded and they played some regional shows. Further compositions such as „Siempre otra vez“, „Dia de los muertos“ or „Asesinos“ followed and the setlist was extended to 17 songs which were presented at a successful show in Freiburg in fall 2007 where CHIMI CHURRI was able to gain the positive resonance they had hoped for.
CHIMI CHURRI is currently working on the second album which will be recorded in fall 2008 and looking forward to hit summertime festivals all around Europe. The band is also searching for worldwide distribution partners, bookers and labels to support promotion and production.
