Mars BlackAlthough Team Love’s Mars Black has been living, working and recording in the Big Apple for the past several months, his larger than life persona is still strongly felt in the Big O. , Black is back.Black’s debut solo effort, “Folks Music,” was released both on CD and vinyl, yielding a moderate yet significant amount of notoriety. As the first hip-hop act signed to Saddle Creek Record’s sister label Team Love (founded by the infamous Conor Oberst himself), Mars Black is poised in an excellent position. His follow-up to “Folks Music” is currently under construction and is slated for a spring release. The album, aptly titled “Stay Black,” is a 15-track creation mixed by Wu-Tang Clan’s original engineer, Carlos “C12” Bess and recorded at Integrated Studios in New York City.Veteran mix-master DJ Ebabbs, Black’s longtime friend and collaborator, produced 90 percent of the beats. Tajik, JJ and Reverend Jim created the other 10. Thanks to Forrest of the Goofyfoot Lodge, Black’s first video for “Hot Chick” will be filmed in its entirety at that location. Clay Haskell of Haskell Films in NYC is flying in to direct the video while Shiloh Crawford III of Trigger Happy Productions of NYC is shooting it. As far as Friday’s performance is concerned, the bill is packed full of talented emcees and DJs itching to give Omaha a little taste of what’s in the works. Mars Black, Jamazz, Sir Skrap and Beta will be on the mike with DJ Ebabbs and resident hip-hop darling DJ Shor T on the one’s and two’s. In addition, DJ Kevy out of NYC will be spinnin’ Deep Brazilian House.
