About Me

Sara Lapsley is the singer, songwriter and founder of the Vancouver Nights. Their self-titled debut album on Winnipeg’s Endearing Records was met with critical acclaim and charted on college radio stations all across Canada. The album was also licensed to Japan’s Quattro records, where it generated a great deal of excitement and interest. “Vancouver Nights” was voted one of the top 100 albums of 2001 by Alternative Press magazine. The band recorded a session for CBC radio and received extensive airplay on the station. They were awarded several FACTOR grants and a SOCAN foundation bursary. A track from the album was featured on the Nickelodeon show “Caitlin’s Way” which aired all over the world. The Vancouver Nights toured across Canada and were a buzz band at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in 2002. Sara Lapsley is an accomplished musician who studied classical music at Capilano College. As the lead singer for all female seminal punk band Kreviss , Sara was at the forefront of the riot girl movement based in Olympia Washington. She was also a founding member of the tongue-in-cheek christian folk ensemble Thee Crusaders with Carl Newman and Blaine Thurier of the New Pornogrpahers. More recently, Sara was involved in the Gay, a local “supergroup” on Vancouver’s Mint records. Her song, ‘Fishin’ Jim” was a highlight of their album “You Know the Rules.” Sara starred in a documentary “Better off in Bed” about life on the road with the Gay, which was nominated for the Phillip Borsous award at the Whistler Film Festival. Currently she performs with Fancey led by Todd Fancey of the New Pornographers. Vancouver Nights have just completed their second full length record “Can we Talk?”. These original songs reflect her unique style and strong songwriting ability. Produced by Dave Carswell of JC/DC, these sparkling, piano driven tunes are timeless and captivating. From the rollicking “Promises” to the poignant “Vancouver Nights” Sara’s sweet and unpretentious vocal performance is sure to charm the listener. This diverse collection of ten songs is a strong followup to Vancouver Nights critically acclaimed debut album.
