P-R-E-S-S----Q-U-O-T-E-S:
â€Correa, who plays guitar in addition to every percussion
instrument ever invented, turned the evening into a Brazilian jazz carnival. The rhythms were exhilarating whether on conga or cuica, the vocals alluring in English or Portuguese.†LEONARD FEATHER - The L.A. Times.

“As for Mayuto, he is a non-stop, one-man rhythm section, adding considerable spice and seasoning, directing and inspiring his combo unostentatiously, and keeping the total sound romantic rather than erotic. It's a joyful blend---a challenge to anyone who thinks he or she can sit still.†HARVEY SIDERS - Los Angeles Herald Examiner.

“We suggest that the next time Mayuto performs the seats be removed. We regret that we couldn't write more today -- its very hard to write/think while you are in motion -- since we are joining the rest of the audience in a moving, standing ovation (or was that just swaying and clapping). My wife Charlotte, who often accompanies me to these events and was in the past a professional dancer, began swaying after the opening bar of the first song. By the end, she had lots of company.†RICHARD WISEMAN - Beverly Hills News.

“Finally Correa himself, who had done just about everything else during this exhausting hour, took the center stage for a wildly acrobatic tambourine dance.†LEONARD FEATHER - The L.A. Times.

“Becides fielding a cohesive and talented jazz group, Mayuto manages to sing, play guitar and congas and play various other percussion instruments. A finer conga player we've never heard--Mayuto coaxes rhythms like no other from the congas. Give him a guitar and ask him to sing and he is equal to any Brazilian group we've heard--all by himself.†RICHARD WISEMAN - Beverly Hills News.

Fri.-Sun. July 13-15 -- When Kenny Burrell invented himself, he practically invented jazz guitar. He’s clean, tasteful, bluesy, and plain classic -- not even bad when he sings. His Jazz Heritage All-Stars live up to the name: Jeff Clayton, Bobby Rodriguez, Tom Ranier, Clayton Cameron, Roberto Miranda, Nick DePinna, Tibon Pennicott and Mayuto Correa. You think just anybody can muster a band like that? At Catalina’s. GREG BURK - MetalJazz.com

I arrived at Catalina's toward the end of the second set but what I heard I really enjoyed. Burrell played with such passion on his swinging version of "Round Midnight," with a soulful tenor solo from Pennicott. Miranda's bass
playing was simply marvelous on "Do What You Got To Do." Vocalist Linda Hopkins was in the audience and she sang, "It's a Wonderful World" as only she can. Other highlights included the perennial favorite, "Take the A Train,"
In a Sentimental Mood," Body and Soul." Correa sang, "Someone to Light Up
My Life." BOB COMDEN - L.A. Jazz Scene.

Mayuto maravilhoso!! Wow, I knew Mayuto was good, but never heard him take an unaccompanied solo before...that was an eye opener. His hands really fly, and he's got all those cross-arm chops, too. Would have been fun to see Mayuto jam with Armando, or maybe with Giovanni Hidalgo. JOSE SIERRA.

Hello Gil, thanks for posting this amazing clip of Mayuto in action. I have to say, Mayuto, that I have seen the Santana band at least 25 times over the years and have never seen a (conga) solo like that before. I was blown away with your talent. (Smile Happy). PARK.
