CHRIS HIERRO
Christopher Hierro was born in New York City (upper west side) on October 31st 1984; He is the second son of Lucia Guzman, a gifted singer and Henry Hierro who was the director and lead singer of an internationally known Merengue band in the mid-eighties “La Gran Manzanaâ€; crafting hits like “Tus Besos†and “Cuando Llegara†has also produced albums for La Fania All-Stars, Los Toros Band, Sergio Vargas, Danny Rivera, Rubby Perez, Alex Bueno, Los Hermanos Rosarios and many more. “Being home was a musical experienceâ€, said Christopher. “I was highly influenced by my mother’s voice and my father’s amazing talent, I remain forever grateful for having them in my lifeâ€.
Christopher began taking his first music lessons in elementary school and showed great interest in music as he spent numerous hours working alongside his father. Henry Hierro partially owned a recording studio located near their apartment home in Washington heights, New York. There, Chris’ remarkable progress as a musician became known upon writing songs like “Te Quiero a Ti†for Los Toros Band and “Eres Tan Linda†for Darlyn y Los Herederos, both renown Merengue bands. Soon after, the Hierro family moved to the Dominican Republic.
Christopher quickly began working at their relocated studio producing his own music as well as jingles and music projects for local artist and his own father. Christopher was of great assistance to his father in the elaboration of his latest album “Volvi Con Mi Pianito†(J&N Records, 2002) named after a song that Chris himself wrote and produced symbolizing his dad’s return to the music scene. On that album Henry Hierro featured his son Christopher who sang three tunes, one original and two Merengue covers. Christopher played and sang with his father all over the Dominican Republic this year.
Chris’s music infatuation led him to form a small band consisting of three members, thus he named it “Nosotros 3â€. Chris and his small band performed in many local cafes all around the country (DR) gaining incredible experience. “At this point in my life I realized how much I wanted to sing and tell my storyâ€, says Chris, “I have been making music beside my father all my life and I am ready to show the world what I can do on my ownâ€. In March of 2004 Chris moved back to his place of birth (New York) and began putting together a group of songs which he calls his ‘pride and joy’. His demo consists of tunes charged with melancholy and a clearly marked Pop sound.
Chris Hierro finds inspiration in singers like Luis Miguel, Marc Anthony and Sin Bandera, “I would like to become the Latin Richard Marx†are his words when asked about his career goals. This does not seem far fetched being it that Chris has shown himself to be up to the task of being a star producer/ singer songwriter at the early age of 21.
