At the tender age of 19, Astonish Monteiro, born Natalie Jeanette Thomas has gone from strength to strength overcoming barriers that had been set for young black R&B Singers. Inspired by artists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera, She first began singing in the church choir from the age of 4. Her parents knew that it was her passion to sing and they believed that she had a special talent. As Astonish continued to grow she began to take up more and more oppurtunities to express her talent whether it was singing in a school performance or singing at a family event. either way she enjoyed it.
At the age of 15 Astonish entered a national talent show called 'Rapology' which was hosted by Choice FM. Thousands upon thousands of young people entered the competition but 25 were picked to perform in the final and among that 25 was Astonish. Although she didn't win, it inspired her to pursue a career in the music buisness. Since then Astonish performed at many events winning most and coming runner up in others.
Money was always an issue for her but she never let that stop her from pursuing her dream. She met with different producers and worked with them for periods of time but wasn't satisfied until she found two producers in particular who suited her sound and style of music. His name was Ray Gambeno and Ghost who ran a label called 'The Family'. They began to work hard together in the studio and began to produce songs that expressed Astonish as a person.
Astonish has risen from height to height and has achieved things that most 19 year olds can only dream about.
